2019 ALAC FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Where will the 2019 ALAC be held? Domain Athletic Centre, Upper Domain Rd, TAS 7000. The Opening Ceremony will start at 9.15am on the Saturday with first event at 10.40am. First event on the Sunday will be at 9.15am and finish around 4:35pm.

2. When will the athlete badge swap happen? Athletes can swap their badges with other state team members at an informal team gathering at the stadium on the Friday before ALAC.

3. When will athletes receive their Competition bibs? Team Managers will be given the athlete bibs prior to the event.

4. Do bibs have to be worn on the front and back of the uniform? Every athlete shall be provided with two bibs which, during the competition, shall be worn visibly on the front and back of their uniform, except in the jumping events, where one bib may be worn on the front only.

5. Which flag should the team captains carry in the March Past? The ‘formal’ Association vinyl banner received at previous ALAC. This will be provided by LAA on the day.

6. What team formation is required for the Opening Ceremony March Past? Teams should march with 4 athletes abreast in each row, with the 2 captains carrying the banner.

7. What uniform is required for the March Past? Full ISC tracksuits and ISC cap must be worn in the March past.

In the event of hot weather, the Competition Director will inform teams on the morning of the opening ceremony whether tracksuit jackets may be taken off. In this instance the ISC T-shirt must be worn underneath.

8. Can athletes wear a shirt underneath their competition singlet? Yes, but it must be plain white or the same colour as the competition uniform and have no other labels showing other than ISC.

9. Do singlets need to be tucked in during competition? No, provided that all numbers (e.g. hip numbers for non-laned events) are visible.

10. Can athletes have a choice of which bottoms to wear in competition? i.e. Can some girls wear boy leg tights, some in training tights and others in running shorts? Yes, they can wear whatever they feel most comfortable in, if they are in the supplied uniform of correct colour.

11. Can athletes wear bike pants underneath their shorts? Yes, provided they are the exact same colour as the team uniform or black and do not have any branding (other than ISC).

Compression pants with branding or contrast stitching cannot be worn. Taping over logos is not permitted.

If longer plain tights are worn under the shorts they need to be above the knee.

12. Which socks should be worn in competition? Non-branded white crew or white low-cut socks are to be worn. No fluoro colours are allowed.

Compression socks are not permitted as they are not low cut. The only exception being with a medical certificate with supplied documentation.

13. What spike lengths are allowed at Domain Athletic Centre? The maximum allowable spike length is 7mm for the track and , and 9mm for the and javelin.

Track, Long and Triple Jump – 7mm

High Jump and Javelin – 9mm

Needle or pin spikes CANNOT BE USED. If an athlete is found with needle or pin spikes, they will need to be replaced otherwise they will not be not be permitted to enter the Field of Play.

14. Where can athletes warm up? Athletes can warm up on the back straight for track events. There is no warm up area for throws or jumps events. Athletes will be given time at the start of each field event to have practice trials.

15. Can athletes do a standing start for , hurdle and relay events? Yes, either a crouch start or a standing start may be used.

Note: If athletes are wearing spikes and doing a crouch start, they MUST use blocks. Athletes may however do a crouch start without using blocks, if they are not wearing spikes

Will the athletes be allowed to use the back straight for warm up? Yes, the back straight will be available for warm up except when the 400m races are being conducted. When Race Walks, 800m and 1500m are being conducted, the outside lanes will be available for warm up once the athletes on track have gone through their first lap.

16. Will hurdles and Starting Blocks be made available on the back straight for warm up? Yes, hurdles and blocks will be made available. Remember, even during warm ups if an athlete is going to be wearing spikes and doing a crouch start, they MUST use starting blocks.

17. What are the Call Room times for events? Call room times will be 30 minutes for field events and 20 minutes for track events. Athletes must be present in the call room at these times.

Combined Event athletes will only need to present at the Call Room for the first event of each day and for all track events. Except for the first field event on Sunday, athletes will present at the field event venues directly.

18. Will athletes be called over the PA for events? No. Athletes will be expected to be at the Call Room, and for some Combined event field events at the event site at the allocated times.

19. How will clashes be managed? A clash manager will be responsible for all clashes and will ensure that athletes are taken from one event to another.

20. How are finalists determined for track events where heats have been necessary? The 1stplace getters in each heat, plus the next 5 fastest performances will progress to the final (to fill eight lanes). Where times are equal, the higher placing will take precedence.

21. If an athlete qualifies for a final and then subsequently scratches or is injured, will an athlete be progressed to the final? No, only those athletes who qualify for the final after the heats have been completed will compete in the final.

22. Are there any Consolation finals this year? No. For track events up to and including the 400m, there will 3 heats and only one final. For 800m there will be two timed finals and overall placing will be based on the performances across both races. The Relays, 1500m & Race Walks will be straight finals.

23. What happens with relays if events are running late? Relay events will not commence until all other events have been completed. We want to enable all athletes in all teams the opportunity to watch their teams compete in the relays and to cheer them on.

24. How are the relay runners listed on the Relay Form? As we are providing Live Streaming commentary, relay runners must be listed in running order.

25. Where will the coaching areas be located at the venue for the field events? Each field event will have a coach’s area located in the field of play close to the event, which will be marked by witches’ hats (or similar).

26. Who will be allowed to enter the coach’s area? Will it just be team management? Yes, only accredited team management as per the ALAC Regulation 2019

“Only accredited Team Management shall be permitted to coach athletes from within the areas reserved for this purpose. The coaching areas must be clearly defined.”

27. Most venues only have Triple Jump markings set for seniors at 9m, 11m and 13m. What if I can’t make it into the pit off the 9m board? There will be three take off lines set at 7m, 9m and 11m.

28. What will be the distance of the Long Jump board from the leading edge of the pit? The Long jump take off board will be set at 2m from the front edge of the pit.

29. Will a plasticine indicator board be used for the Long jump and triple Jump foul lines? Plasticine indicator boards will be used for Long Jump only. As the 7m and 9m take off boards are not sunk into the runway, plasticine will not be used.

30. How will two pits be run in high jump for the Combined-Event athletes? Athletes will be split into two groups based on their nominated starting height. The baseline height of 1.00m will be used to determine athletes nominated starting height. The bar on both pits will only be raised in increments of 3cm throughout the competition. The starting height for each pit may be different but will only be a multiple of 3cm from the baseline height i.e. one pit may start at 1.21m and the other pit may start at 1.33m. Both pits will meet at a certain height so there is no disadvantage to any athlete. Athletes should be confident and experienced enough to pass on a lower height and only come in at the height they are comfortable with. The use of two pits starting at different heights will ensure the event does not drag on for too long and that the better jumpers are not having to sit around waiting to begin jumping. Athletes may choose to start at a height different to their nominated height, however they must inform the Recorder judge prior to the commencement of the event if they will change.

31. What is the composition of the U15 Mixed Gender 4 x 100m Relay? The composition of the team is 2 boys and 2 girls, and they may run in any order.

32. What is the ruling for fielding a team in the U15 Mixed Gender Relay event? Each Association’s U15 Mixed Relay team must be made up of 2 boys and 2 girls and they must be from the U15 age group. If a team cannot field this configuration then they will have to withdraw from that event or be disqualified.

33. How will the 800m events for the Combined-Event be conducted? For each gender, there will be two heats. The 14 highest ranked athletes, based on points after the sixth event will compete in the second heat, and the rest of the athletes will compete in the first heat. This allows for the 14 athletes in contention to win the event to compete in the one heat.

34. What are the Invitational Relay events? As part of the 50th Australian Teams Championship celebrations, we have scheduled three invitational Relays. There will be a Boys and a Girls U13 Medley Relay and a 2nd U15 Mixed 4x100m Relay. The two U13 relays will consist of 4 legs being 100m, 300m, 200m and400m. (also known as a Swedish Relay). The first three placed teams in each event will be presented with medals, however the events will not go towards point scores for any of the team trophies.

35. How will the medal presentations be organised? Medal presentations have been scheduled throughout the weekend close to the conclusion of events. The first 3 placegetters in each event, both track and field, will be taken to the medal presentation area after the completion of the event, except where ceremonies are scheduled at a later time. The Combined-Event presentations are scheduled to be the last presentations prior to the closing ceremony. Medals will be presented from 3rd place to 1st place.

36. Where will the medal presentation holding area be located? The medal presentation holding area will be in an area beyond the finish line. There will be signage.

37. What uniform is required for medal presentations? In most cases medal presentations will occur at the conclusion of an event. ISC competition uniforms and athlete’s shoes must be worn for medal presentations.

In instances where medal presentations are not scheduled straight after the event, athletes may put on their ISC tracksuits and wear this to the medal ceremony.

38. Will team point scores be announced throughout the competition? We will endeavour to announce point scores periodically throughout each day.

39. Will the combined-event points be regularly supplied? Yes, a report listing progressive points will be supplied to each team after each individual discipline has been completed.

40. What happens in the case of a wet or very hot weekend? The event will go ahead. The ALAC Competition Committee will continuously monitor the conditions and will follow the guidelines set out in the Coles LAA ALAC Extreme Weather policy. The policy can be found on the Coles Little Athletics Website under 2019 ALAC www.littleathletics.com.au

Events may need to be delayed or postponed. The ALAC Competition Committee will advise of the contingency plan.

41. Where do we park at the venue? Spectators may park in any unrestricted parking areas in or around the Domain Athletic Stadium. There will be reserved parking areas for team buses behind the main grandstand.

42. Can we bring eskies/food into the venue? Yes, you can bring eskies/food into the venue, no alcohol is allowed.

43. Will programs be available at the championships? Programs will be supplied for team management. No programs will be available for purchase. The program can be downloaded from the Coles Little Athletics Australia website www.littleathletics.com.au

44. Will parents/spectators have access to the teams’ area? Parents will NOT be allowed access to the team’s area. There will also be other restricted areas around the venue where parents/spectators will not be permitted.

45. Are athletes allowed to sit with their family and friends whilst competing? Athletes will not be permitted to sit in the grandstand with family and friends whilst competing.

46. Will there be live results at this championship? Yes, results will be published. You can view the live results by going to Live.athletics.com.au

47. If an athlete or spectator is injured or sick, where do they go? The First Aid area is located beside the track beyond the finish line.
