We strive to grow in faith through United States Conference of Catholic our celebration of the sacraments of the one, holy, (USCCB): www.usccb.org catholic, and apostolic Church. Vatican: www.vatican.va Prince of Peace Catholic Church 4 Letter From The Pastor Dear Parishioners,

On the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, Sacred Scripture reveals that the Lord God is one and there is no other. We have been chosen as His own and through the Spirit are able to call God Abba. Through all nations are called to share in the life of the Son and acknowledge the triune God. We honor the Holy Trinity when we bless ourselves devoutly with holy water upon entering and leaving the church. It reminds us of who God is – Father, Son and Holy Spirit - and who we are - adopted sons and daughters.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) invites us to take part in Religious Freedom Week, June 22 – 29 with the theme, “Strength in Hope.” At www.usccb.org you will find “Pray – Reflect – Act” documents—one for each day on different religious liberty topics. These materials can help us learn about religious liberty from a Catholic perspective, pray about particular issues, and act on what we learn. I invite you to be a part of this important annual initiative.

Our parish gift shop is a ministry to provide our parishioners and guests basic Catholic religious articles. Thank you to our dedicated parishioners who give of their time and talent in the shop. However, they are small in number and when not available the shop is unable to be opened. Hence, there is a need for additional parishioners to assist with this ministry. If the shop is important to you and you are able to share a bit of your time, please contact Maureen Vilcheck at the parish office. Thank you for your consideration.

To all dads this weekend – Happy Father’s Day! Thank you for the many ways you reflect the unselfish love of Jesus Christ in marriage and family life. We respect you and ask the Lord to bless you in every way. The envelopes with the names of our fathers will remain in the sanctuary until the end of the month as a visual reminder of our prayers for them.

May God, the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit bless you and your families – Father Kovanis

Spiritual Role of Fathers The Rite of Baptism for children may say it best. After the or blesses the mother, he blesses the father, saying: “God is the giver of all life, human and divine. May he bless the father of this child. He and his wife will be the first teachers of their child in the ways of faith. May they be also the best of teachers, bearing witness to the faith by what they say and do, in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.”

All fathers have a natural duty to protect, provide for and educate their daughters and sons while being loving and supportive husbands. Catholic fathers have an added responsibility to be role models of faith and of virtue as companions on the faith journeys of their children. That instructor/companion role, which is influenced by their family and cultural upbringing, changes as children age but never disappears.

The Bible offers many teachings about the role of fathers, especially in the Wisdom literature of the Hebrew Scriptures. The New Testament letters address this responsibility, especially in 1Thessalonians 2:11-12, Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21 and 1 John 2:13-14. Everything that Jesus says about being a applies to dads.

In recent years, both single and married Catholic men have begun participating in men’s prayer groups, Scripture study and retreats on male spirituality. The National Resource Center for Catholic Men can offer local contacts. Many books and CDs address the same issues. For example, Richard Rohr has written two books: The Wild Man’s Journey: Reflections on Male Spirituality and Quest for the Grail. Signposts: How to Be a Catholic Man in the World Today present 52 topics, with Scripture and Catechism references, plus a real-life story and reflection questions.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Mt 28:19-20).

In these verses we see how the risen Christ sent his followers to preach the Gospel in every time and place, so that faith in him might spread to every corner of the earth. ~ Francis, The Joy of the Gospel (19)

November 2018, our parish took part in the Disciple Make Index (DMI) Survey.

The goal of participating in the DMI Survey was to provide parishioners with an opportunity to reflect on their spiritual growth and involvement in the parish.

This, in turn, can provide parish leadership with insights as to how we can improve and grow as disciples of Jesus.

A high participation or response rate to the DMI survey is essential to its success. Our parishioners answered this call enthusiastically.

Prince of Peace received 429 responses to the Survey, 381 of those surveys completed online. This is a 33% response rate of our active/registered membership. Compare this to a national expected response rate of 9%. Such a high participation rate is one sign of vibrancy in the parish.

The following is a “demographics” snapshot of our Prince of Peace Respondents

Respondents: 66% women 34% men

Age of Respondents: 2% - 36-55 12% - 56-65 38% - 66-75 48% - over 75 The Most Holy Trinity 9 June 16, 2019 Around the Parish

Respondents’ Ethnicity and Race: 92% - Caucasian 2% - Hispanic/Latino 1% - Asian American 1% - Native American 4% - Other

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at some very specific DMI Survey responses.

How do parishioners identify themselves on their Catholic Journey? What is the level of participation at Mass, Sacraments and individual prayer life? If there is a high level of participation at Mass, does this translate into an invitation to someone to attend Mass?

Do we share our personal witness stories with others? Are we growing from simple participation into active discipleship?

We grow as individuals and as a whole community. We continue to grow as we give witness to the Good News. Let us keep ourselves and those who encounter in our prayers, as we continue to live out the mandate of Jesus…”Go therefore and make disciples…” ~Michelle Szczepanski Coordinator of Evangelization and Stewardship Prince of Peace Catholic Church 10 Worship INTROIT Today’s Music Trinity Sunday Readings can be found in the 3 j ˙ Ignatius Pew Missal (IPM) starting &b4 ˙ œ œ. œ œ ˙ œ œ œ œ œ on page 203. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us, “The mystery of the Holy Trinity is the central mystery of the Christian faith and of the Christian life.” (CCC, #261) The Church shows that because God is “mystery,” meaning that we just can’t pin God down — we’re unable to know everything there is to know about God — God has tried to communicate to us just who He is. Traditionally, the Church expressed this as, God being revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three expressions or “persons” of one divine essence. The Trinity is one. Catholics do not believe in three Gods but rather one God in a unity of three persons with one divine nature. CATHOLIC IQ ANSWERS 2. At the end of Matthew’s gospel, Jesus sends the disciples out to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (MTH 28:19). This is the origin of the Church’s “trinitarian formula.” The understanding of the relationship between the three persons of the Trinity itself developed over the first few centuries of Christianity as church leaders pondered the many and various passages in the New Testament about Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. Some passages speak of Jesus as the Son of God (Luke 1:35). There are passages in which Jesus promises that God will send the Holy Spirit after Jesus’ death (John 14:26). Some passages speak of Jesus and the Father as one (John 17:22-23). (*Citation: Busted Halo, What Is the Trinity?
