Barn owls ca n be noisy, smelly and moody and do no t make good pets. David is co ncerned that hatched in captivity they can be sold for a few pounds. Buyers are often ignorant of the birds' needs. David's ability to nurse injured birds and return them to the wild has gai ned him a reputation as a bird of prey handler. He has cared for a variety of birds, with injuries including broken bones, damaged muscl es and poisonin g. He believes that birds of prey with no chance of regain ing flight should not be saved, unl ess th ey are from an endangered species.
