  • Tasmanian Motorsport Hall of Fame
TASMANIAN MOTORSPORT HALL OF FAME DAVID “Skippy” PARSONS (Inducted 2021) David “Skippy” Parsons started his motorsport career as a teenager, on a trials bike in 1975. He had a natural talent and won the Tasmanian championship the following year. It was to be his first of an amazing nine consecutive championships through until 1985. David also contested three Australian championships, which in the 1970s and 1980s usually attracted fields of nearly 300 riders from all over Australia and overseas, finishing ninth in 1985. While excelling on two wheels, David was also starting to make a name for himself on four wheels, winning his class in club days in his father Graham’s Holden Torana SLR5000 L34. He also set a course record at the Highclere Hillclimb, in the State’s North-West, which stood for many years, so when Graham retired from racing in 1977, it was only natural David move up to touring cars. After several seasons, which included a class record at Symmons Plains, David upgraded to a Holden Commodore - and always looking for more power - he purchased a second-hand motor from John Harvey of the Holden Dealer Team in 1982. David finished fifth in the Symmons Plains round of the national championship before going on to record four top-five results to finish 12th in the championship and winning Rookie of the Year. His efforts didn’t go un-noticed and he was recruited by the Peter Jansen Cadbury Schweppes Team to race a Commodore at the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 endurance events. David and Peter finished fourth in David’s first appearance at Mount Panorama, qualifying third on the grid the following year and running as high as second before a blown engine ended their day.

  • Jack's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Race Wrap
Jack's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Race Wrap... PRESENTED BY ADAPS - 100% AUSTRALIAN OWNED - QUALITY IT RECRUITMENT www.adaps.com.au This year marked the "50th Year of Bathurst", and it was a privilege to be driving for Garry Rogers Motorsport/Fujitsu Racing. The Bathurst race, the track, and the event is very special for me personally and for my family, with my father having tremendous success at this race across his 20 plus years of racing at Mount Panorama. The week kicked off on Wednesday, with a drivers parade through the main street of Bathurst, followed by an autograph session in town. The build up of the event, given the 50 years celebrations, was just massive, and the amount of fans and supporters that attended was simply awesome. The on track activity started on Thursday, with three practice sessions. This year I was driving with the Frenchman, Alexandre Premat, who had never been to Bathurst before, so the main priority on Day one was to give him as much track time as possible, and learn this tricky 6.2km circuit. Alex drove the #33 Fujitsu Commodore in the first and third practice session, while I drove in the second session, because it is a session for the co-drivers only. It was great to get out on the track and we managed the fifth fastest time. It was also good to get into competitive lap times straight away, also because we were on older practice tyres. Traditionally the GRM/Fujitsu cars are very competitive at Bathurst and I felt very comfortable straight away.

  • Plus Fitness Takes on Mount Panorama Bathurst 1000
Plus Fitness Takes on Mount Panorama Bathurst 1000 Three sets of brothers to create history in this October’s race NEWCASTLE-based brothers Aaren and Drew Russell will achieve a life-long dream this year of racing in the most famous race in Australia - the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama sponsored by Australian gym chain, Plus Fitness. Regulars in the V8 Supercars Dunlop Series over the past decade, the Novocastrian duo has been granted a wildcard entry by V8 Supercars to compete in the most famous race in Australia. The Russell brothers join Nissan’s Kelly brothers, Rick and Todd, and the Erebus team’s Davison brothers, Will and Alex, on the grid this October. It’s the first time in just over 30 years (1984) that three sets of brothers have competed in the Bathurst 1000. The Russells will also become second-generation Bathurst 1000 drivers given their father Wayne, who acts as their team manager, made four starts in the race between 1994 and 1997. The brothers intend to carry #62 as their racing number at Bathurst, the same number their father used in his appearances in the Mount Panorama classic. Aaren Russell, 23, has impressed in recent times in the Dunlop Series with podium finishes in the Plus Fitness Falcon last year at Queensland Raceway and Sydney Olympic Park and again this year at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. His talents and efforts were recently recognised by V8 Supercars Championship team Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport, which gave him his first taste of a current-generation V8 Supercar at the recent Queensland Raceway event during the additional driver practice session.
