HBO original film NATIVE SON, based on the classic novel by Richard Wright, debuts on April 8 on HBO

Ashton Sanders, Margaret Qualley and Nick Robinson bring the classic story to life, through the eyes of visual artist Rashid Johnson, in his directorial debut.

MIAMI, FL., April 2, 2019 – Directed by renowned visual artist Rashid Johnson, the HBO Films presentation NATIVE SON tells the tale of how stereotypes can quickly become true, when race, class and the illusion of opportunity take over. From Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Suzan-Lori Parks, NATIVE SON tells the story of Bigger Thomas (Ashton Sanders), a young African-American living in Chicago who is hired as a chauffeur for affluent lawyer Will Dalton (Bill Camp, Emmy®-nominee for HBO’s ). As Bigger enters this seductive new world of money, politics and power — including a disastrous relationship with Dalton’s daughter, Mary (Margaret Qualley, HBO’s THE LEFTOVERS), and her boyfriend, the radical, leftist political leader, Jan (Nick Robinson, from Love, Simon) — he faces unforeseen choices and perilous circumstances that might change the bright future of a talented young man.

The cast also includes KiKi Layne, , David Alan Grier and Sanaa Lathan.
