Club Meeting THIS WEEK'S SPEAKERDiane GarrisonBureau of Indian Affairs, Indian Health Oyster Point of Newport News Diane Garrison is from Manhattan, Kansas and her family lives in Prague, Oklahoma , it is Jim Thorpe�s ( Sac Fox tribe) home . Meets at Christopher Newport University, After graduating from Manhattan, Kansas she went to The Flint Hills Area Vocational and Technical school in Emporia, Kansas. David Student Union 1 University Place The program she attended was Expanded Function Dental Assisting, after graduating she joined the Military (Army). Newport News, VA Diane went in to the Women�s Army Corp and several months later was integrated in with the men. She had always been stationed with Medical Time: Friday at 07:30 Field Units (MASH) during the Viet Nam war. Diane spent 6 years active duty and the next 32 years with DOD civilian with the Dental Corp. AM During this time she started volunteering with a free medical clinic on the reservation in West Point, VA. Speakers The care is for all Native Americans in , they are an all donation and volunteer ran clinic. Diane is now the Vice President of the Mattaponi December 13, 2019 Healing Eagle Clinic on the Upper Mattaponi Tribal Grounds. Diane Garrison Bureau of Indian Her father is from the Chickamauga Cherokee Indian Creek Tribe. He was raised in the Ozarks Mountains of Missouri, and she has embraced her father�s heritage after learning Affairs, Indian Health the history of her family. December 20, 2019 Diane is now employed by Health and Human Services, Indian Health Services. There are only 2 Medical Support Assistants in the state of Virginia, that work with tribal members. Nelson Kelly She works predominately for the Tribe, they were the first tribe in Virginia to be federally recognized. They secure quality medical, dental care for the tribal citizens.
