Tammar Wallaby Macropus eugenii (Desmarest, 1817) Description Dark, grizzled grey-brown above, becoming rufous on the sides of the body and the limbs, especially in males. Pale grey-buff below. Other Common Names Dama Wallaby (South Australia) Distribution The Western Australian subspecies of the Tammar Wallaby was previously distributed throughout most of the south-west of Western Australia from Kalbarri National Park to Cape Arid on the south coast Photo: Babs & Bert Wells/DEC and extending to western parts of the Wheat belt. Size The Tammar Wallaby is currently known to inhabit three islands in the Houtman Abrolhos group (East and West Wallabi Island, and an introduced population on North Island), Garden Island near Perth, Kangaroo Island wallabies Middle and North Twin Peak Islands in the Archipelago of the Head and body length Recherche, and several sites on the mainland - including, Dryandra, Boyagin, Tutanning, Batalling (reintroduced), Perup, private property 590-680 mm in males near Pingelly, Jaloran Road timber reserve near Wagin, Hopetoun, 520-630 mm in females Stirling Range National Park, and Fitzgerald River National Park. The Tammar Wallaby remains relatively abundant at these sites which Tail length are subject to fox control. 380-450 mm in males They have been reintroduced to the Darling scarp near Dwellingup, 330-440 mm in females Julimar Forest near Bindoon, state forest east of Manjimup, Avon Valley National Park, Walyunga National Park, Nambung National Park and to Karakamia and Paruna Sanctuaries. Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals 2nd Meeting of the Sessional Committee of the CMS Scientific Council (ScC-SC2) Bonn, Germany, 10 – 14 July 2017 UNEP/CMS/ScC-SC2/Inf.3 DISAGGREGATION OF BIRD FAMILIES LISTED ON CMS APPENDIX II (Prepared by the Appointed Councillors for Birds) Summary: The first meeting of the Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council identified the adoption of a new standard reference for avian taxonomy as an opportunity to disaggregate the higher-level taxa listed on Appendix II and to identify those that are considered to be migratory species and that have an unfavourable conservation status. The current paper presents an initial analysis of the higher-level disaggregation using the Handbook of the Birds of the World/BirdLife International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World Volumes 1 and 2 taxonomy, and identifies the challenges in completing the analysis to identify all of the migratory species and the corresponding Range States. The document has been prepared by the COP Appointed Scientific Councilors for Birds. Botanic Endeavour 250 Our plants, our future Botanic Gardens and Arboreta throughout Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ) commemorate the anniversary ‘voyage of discovery’ onboard the barque Endeavour, during which Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander made a comprehensive collection of flora. Captain James Cook mapped the entire coastline of New Zealand in 1769 before traversing the east coast of Australia in 1770 from Point Hicks to Cape York. Pressings of over 520 new taxa unknown to western science were collected along the route up the east coast of Australia and these, along with thousands of botanical illustrations, somehow made it back to England in the face of shipwreck, waterlogging and the dank and humid conditions below decks. The rich abundance of diverse flora excited the botanic world and ultimately led to the settlement of the new colony. In Australia, 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of these discoveries. New Zealand celebrated this anniversary in 2019. Our Australian Indigenous heritage Prior to 1770, the Traditional Custodians of Australia lived in harmony with the land for over 40,000 years and discovered the ethnobotanic use for Australia’s native flora for food, medicine, tools, clothing and building materials. -

Here we report a photo− −documented record of an Austral Negrito (Lessonia rufa), first known occurrence of this species in the South Shetland Islands and only the second such an observation in the Antarc− tic region. This record was made at Lions Rump, King George Island, part of the Antarctic Specially Protected Area No. 151 (ASPA 151).
