AGC ‘s motto of Skill, Responsibility, Bridge —Matt Ericksen— ALDOT and Integrity is as relevant today as it was 96 years ago when AGC was established. Why Join AGC Mobile Section represents just one of eight sections in the AlabamaAGC family. These are used March 8-11, 2016 many times to recruit new members to AGC. National AGC Convention - San Antonio, Texas However, these points tell the story of what AGC does, but they don’t tell March 23, 2016 anyone what AGC means. I feel that the question of “What does AGC mean” can best be answered by saying – AGC brings people together. As we have Mobile Section, AGC Safety Awards Luncheon seen at event after event, direct competitors, suppliers, sub-contractors, Country Club of Mobile engineers, architects, attorneys, sureties and others occupations and professions have come together to further our organization’s goals March 31, 2016 and aspirations. I am very proud of this fact and believe it makes our AGC Spring Golf Tournament association unique. I am aware that the cliché “we are a family” is overused Heron Lakes Country Club but it certainly applies here. A membership in AGC means you are part of the AGC family. As with all families, there are triumphs and tragedies. Our April 11-16, 2016 AGC family has had our share of both this year. I like to think that the AGC family was there to make seemingly unbearable situations a little easier Work Zone Safety Week to handle. I am proud to work for a company that believes in AGC as much as I do and am proud to have served as President over the past two years. Thursday, April 21, 2016 It has given me a new perspective on this organization. If you are not Spring Fling Crawfish Boil already, I encourage you to serve on a committee and get involved in YOUR at the Construction Center association. What’s Next in Building the Bridge 2016 Important Year for Mobile River Bridge Project

by Matt Ericksen Alabama Department of Transportation

Progress continues to be made on the Environmental Impact Statement and preliminary design for the Mobile River Bridge project. ALDOT and their consulting team led by Thompson Engineering have begun work on a storm surge impact analysis, traffic analyses, geotechnical investigation, and other studies in order to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) in addressing the impacts of the project. The results from this preliminary work will help determine heights of the river and bay bridges, number of lanes required, and the interchange configurations from Texas Street to the Eastern Shore as well as the impacts these changes will have on the environment and the traveling public. Once the interchange configurations and other commitments and impacts are determined, a public involvement meeting will be held to gather public comment. A Final Environmental Impact Statement will conclude with a Record of Decision from the Federal Highway Administration which will permit ALDOT to finalize the design of www.alabamapipeandsupply.com the project. This will be a very important year for the project with several milestones met and important decisions made that will determine the www.alabamapipeandsupply.comwww.alabamapipeandsupply.com funding requirements and design parameters. In the meantime, look forward to some changes coming this summer at the I-10/Water Street and I-10/Texas Street Interchanges to help the flow of traffic through the existing Wallace 251-653-1399 Tunnels.

Operations at the Airbus assembly plant and expansion by the state’s automakers may lead to construction of related supply and distribution facilities. Furthermore, there should be significant beneficial spillover effects as the relatively highly paid workers at those plants spend their additional income in the local economy.

The so-called FAST Act increases federal contributions slightly, and its longer duration should enable state transportation officials to plan and award larger, more complex highway and bridge projects. There will also be increases in many direct federal construction accounts for both military and civilian projects. Alabama is still a slow-growth state in terms of population, and that limits the potential demand for many types of construction, such as housing, retail, schools and other public structures. The U.S. Census Bureau reported in late December that Alabama’s population grew just

Bagby Elevator Company’s cornerstone is an uncompromising commitment to service excellence. As one of the nation’s largest independent elevator contractors, we have built a tradition spanning over nine decades. We would like to think that our longevity can be attributed to a practice of treating each customer as our only customer. Arthur Bagby, Sr., who was one of the first to use hydraulic fluid instead of water in hydraulic elevators, found Bagby Elevator Company in 1920. Now this innovation has become an industry standard. Bagby Elevator has evolved into a multi-service provider of elevator maintenance, installation, and repair, with operations throughout Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida.

Bagby now manufactures, installs, repairs, renovates and maintains elevator systems for virtually any commercial, industrial, and residential use. Under the third-generation leadership of Arthur P. Bagby III, Bagby Elevator continues to be an industry pacesetter. We feel that by combining the best of the old concept of service with modern technology we will be the elevator contractor best suited to meet your needs.

Airbus one of the major commercial airline production lines in the United States, which presented S&S with a large project and a fairly tight schedule. We faced many safety challenges throughout the entire project including heights, congestion caused by the number of contractors working at once, and the large amount of traffic onsite. The focus for S&S was the quality of work and the safety of everyone on site.
