PUBLIC TELEVISION & PUBLIC RADIO FOR ROCHESTER JUNE 2018

FRIDAY, JUNE 8 AT 9PM ON WXXI-TV Known as the performers behind ’s “Wall of Sound,” the Wrecking Crew was a group of Los Angeles- based studio musicians from the 1960s who played on hits for , , Sonny & , The Mamas & the Papas, and more. Rarely credited on record, The Wrecking Crew nevertheless played for, with, and in the service of, nearly every prominent American pop performer of the decade. At long last, this documentary brings guitarist , drummer , bassist , and saxophonist to the fore. Telling the Crew’s story through pictures and their trademark sound, the program explores how this core group of dedicated musicians brought the flair and musicianship that made the American “west coast sound” a dominant cultural force around the world.

We received the prestigious “Serving New York” Award in recognition of our Be My Neighbor Day with Daniel Tiger event. More than 3,500 kids and families attended the event at the Central Library last summer. They spent the day meeting local community helpers, such as firefighters, police officers, and community educators, to learn what it means to be a good neighbor. Over 25 community organizations and partner agencies shared information, free resources, and ways to help families improve their health, safety, education, and recreation. This family engagement event is a great example of how WXXI’s Education team works with community partners to support families with lifelong educational opportunities, events and resources. Just a reminder to our Little Theatre fans – restoration of Theatre 1 is underway! Over the next several months we’ll be making historically appropriate capital improvements, including main theatre upgrades, accessibility improvements, and new seating with – yes – cupholders! We’re looking forward to the reopening of this iconic 1920’s Art Deco theatre in October and can’t wait for you to see it. Until then, please remember that theatres 2-5 remain open for you to enjoy American independent and foreign films, as well as the café, featuring great food, art, and live music throughout the week. To find out more about the restoration efforts and how you can help, visit TheLittle.org/BigPicture. Finally – and most importantly – if you pledged your support for public radio during our Spring Membership Campaign, thank you! Membership continues to be our most important source of funding, ensuring the independent service you value and rely on every day continues to be strong. Best wishes for a wonderful summer!

Norm Silverstein [email protected] | @normWXXI Q&A WITH A WXXI UNDERWRITER Woods Oviatt Gilman (WOG) is a full-service law frm representing a broad spectrum of clients – from publicly traded corporations to family-owned businesses and charities. Founded in 1852, the frm has continued to expand and distinguish itself, and now has worldwide reach and offces in Rochester, Buffalo and Phoenix, AZ. With our membership in Meritas Worldwide we are able to provide services for our clients across the globe, while still providing top-level client service. Q. What are some major trends you’re seeing in the industry? Technology. Specifcally data security and innovation. Social media is also playing a big part in EVENTS how frms market and interact with clients and contacts. Q. Greatest opportunities? We’re lucky to have a diverse client base, and with that comes the opportunity to work with clients on many levels, including the business side of their lives as well as their personal estate planning issues. Q. Why is marketing development so important for attorneys? The legal industry is becoming increasingly competitive, so marketing and business development are key to the growth of the frm and individual attorney’s practices. Having strong brand recognition helps keep our frm’s name relevant in the community. Q. How does WOG “live its brand”? We practice our tagline, “The art of representing people,” every day in our offces and in the community. Client service is of utmost importance to us and is the foundation of everything we do for our clients. THURSDAY, JUNE 21 FROM 11AM TO 3PM GRANITE MILLS AT HIGH FALLS

Join WXXI, Classical 91.5 host Brenda Tremblay (right), and her Music Stand as we participate in Make Music Day, a free celebration of music around the world. Brenda and the music stand will be parked at Granite Mills at High Falls at 11 a.m. where she’ll perform a song or two and hope you’ll join her. You can sign up for a performance time slot at Classical915.org/makemusicday. Throughout the day we’ll have an instrument making station, where kids and kids at heart can make an instrument out of recycled materials. And, at 12 p.m. Brenda and the music stand will break so that we can bring you our regularly scheduled Hochstein at High Falls concert series, featuring the Bossa Nova Bradley Brothers. After the concert we’ll bring back the music stand for more Make Music Day performances until 3 p.m. That’s when the music stand moves to the Little Theatre for more performances throughout the East End. PLEASE NOTE: if it rains we will still be outside under a small tent for performances, but we will not have the instrument making station. MORE ABOUT MAKE MUSIC DAY Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries.
