Cannon #1 at Fort Phoenix sends a plume of fire and smoke over the wall on Saturday, 9/24, at the annual fall encampment of the Fairhaven Village Mllitia. The fort was attacked by the British in September, 1778, and the annual encampment commemorates that attack and recreates life as it was for soldiers and their families in 1778. The fort’s five cannons are shot off by the militia several times a year. See page 12 for story and more photos. Photo courtesy of Donna Durrigan.
