Gogango Divisional Board, (1890), Lengthsmen's wives and families at camp on Rockhampton-Emu Park road near the saltpans were brought to Emu Park on rail trollies after torrential rainfall. Fifteen inches fell in 36 hours at Rockhampton, mostly during an eight-hour period. Morning Bulletin, 27 March, p. 5

Harbour Master, Rockhampton, (1890), condemns dangerous condition of the deepwater wharf: ‘a mooring pole pulled away to leave a moored barque hanging to only one pole.’ Wharf decking was also useless; the barque unloaded 50 tons of galvanised iron and the wharf deck sank almost 12 ins. Morning Bulletin, 23 April, p. 5.

Anon, (1888), Storm wind register of 11 at Emu Park is only one less than the 12 maximum, although no damage reported. Schooner Bannockburn broke moorings and a cutter anchored at the breakwater pulled chains and was grounded in lower river reach. Salvage is charged to recover vessels damaged or sunk in the river. Robert Ross, Bald Hills (Yeppoon) (1874) advised Sub-Collector of Customs, Kilner, Rockhampton, that a large ship was sighted 1 March 1874, anchored about twelve miles northeast of Ross’ house.
