1. General Characteristics of the District

1.1 Location & Geographical Area.

Named after the last ruler of Deccan Sir nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan bahadur. Osmanabad district lies in the southern part of state. Most of the district area is rocky while the remaining part is plain. The height of district is 600 mm above sea level. Most part of the district is surrounded by small mountain called "Balaghat". , Washi, Kalamb, Osmanabad & Tahsil lie in the range of this Balaghat mountain.Some part of the major rivers like Godawari and Bhima come under this district. The area of district is 7512.4 sq. km out of which 241.4 sq km is urban area ( 3.21z% of total area ) and 7271.0 sq km is rural area ( 96.79 % of total area).

Tuljapur in Osmanabad district is famous for Tulja Temple built by Raje . Persons from all over visit the temple for worship. Tulja Bhavani College of Engineering is located near the town.Kati village in Tuljapur Division has two mosques said to be more than 500 years old. The larger is called Jamia Masjid. The smaller Masjid is older and very small with a mysterious typical architecture.

Naldurg is another historical place in Osmanabad with a beautiful historic fort.

Shelagoan(jagir) is a place where there is a Maruti Temple.

Mankeshwar is a place where there is a Hemadpanthi Shiv Temple and goddess Satwai temple.

The district also offers some worth visiting sites to name a few are: Saint Goroba Temple, Dharashiv Caves, Ramling (Temple of Lord ), Wadgaon (Temple of Lord Shiva), Fort and Fort etc.

Osmanabad City also have famous Darga of Hazrat Khwaja Shamsoddin Gazi(RA). The interiors of darga is decorated with colourful glass pieces which is the main attraction nowadays. www.swarajindia.org link for osmnabad revolution One more thing is a must visit in Osmanabad City. If you are in Osmanabad, just board a bus to Yedshi. It is a small villege. From Yedshi move towards the Road. Just 1 KM from Yedshi on the Barshi Road you will find a board of Forest Department Osmanabad. Move in from that road. After about 1/2 KM you will be able to see a Hill all covered in greenary and on that hill there is a Railway Circuit house. It is not just any ordinary circuit house. It was built in 1870's. It was built by British Government for top railway officers of that era. It is still just 3

fantastic and beautiful. You will have a very good view of the forest from there. If you go there in the rainy season you will surely sight a Peacock.

1.2 Topography : The district is located on east side of region within North latitude 17.35 to 18.40 degree and east latitude 75.16 to 76.40 degree. The district is surrounded by following districts: Solpaur - South-west - North-west - North

For Rural development, Chief Executive officer of Zilla Parishad and at block level, Block Development Officers are in charge of the administration.There are 8 Panchayat Samities and 8 Nagar Parishads.

There are 8 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in this district and 1 Osmanabad constituencies .

The growth of Industries observed in the dist. of Osmanabad in the field Agro based industries. Few industry has come up in area of fabrication, servicing of Two/ Four wheelers . M/s. Bombay Rayon has also set up one unit which is engaged in manufacturing Ready made garments.
