Bromley Pub Walk No. 26

Public Transport: Knockholt Station (Zone 6): . Southeastern, Charing Cross/ Bridge to via Grove Park and Chelsfield, Bo Peep: . R7, via Orpington (note that this bus runs on a one-way circular route through Chelsfield: Five Bells > Bo Peep > Court Rd) Notes: Whilst most of this route is rural, it involves walking around part of the very busy A21/M25 roundabout The Route: (Starting at Knockholt Station) . Leave the station via the exit adjacent to the ticket office and turn left up the station approach. Turn left upon reaching the main road, then immediately left up a track which climbs to cross the rail tracks . Continue up the track, which climbs until it crosses the A21 on a footbridge . At the far side of the footbridge, the path continues to climb uphill for a short while, then at the end of the concrete track turn sharp right onto a narrower grass path which climbs and bends left, skirting the perimeter of the golf course. It then drops down to meet Court Rd (A224) . If the road is not too busy, and if you feel it is safe to do so, cross the road here (NB. There is no traffic island at this point), then turn right and walk down the verge towards the roundabout. If the road is busy, it is probably easier/safer to cross the road at the traffic island by the roundabout . At the roundabout, also cross Hewitts Rd with care at the traffic island and take the footpath into the woods straight ahead, signposted to ‘Well Hill’; this sign sits amid a plethora of various road signs . After a very uninspiring start, where the path runs very close to the M25 spur for about 100yds, it then improves after turning sharp left over a high stile. The path now leaves the traffic behind and enters a series of horse pastures. The path follows a more or less straight route through 3 fields via stiles until joining Shoreham Lane at another stile: o The first stile is within a fence and is easy to see o The second is not quite as visible, since it is within a hedgerow. It is located towards the highest point on the hedge within the field o The stile onto Shoreham Lane is also not immediately visible. However, it is within a gap in the hedgerow, approx. 50 yards away from the house which is adjacent to the left boundary of the field o NB. These stiles are more visible when walking from the Bo Peep to the station . Turn left and walk down the road (no footway), past the houses on the left until reaching the garden terrace entrance to the Bo Peep pub Continues…

(Possible alternative route avoiding walking next to the A224) . Note: This route is NOT being recommended for reasons of safety. Whilst this alternative does avoid walking on the verge adjacent to the A224, it necessitates crossing that road directly opposite the path from the golf course, where there is no traffic island. It also requires walking for approx. 200 yds. along the busy and narrow Hewitts Rd. This road has no footway (Starting at The Bo Peep) . Leave the pub via the terrace and take the steps down to Shoreham Lane (no footway). Turn right and follow the lane for approx. 150yds until a signed footpath leaves on the right hand side via a stile
