Annual report August 2018 - July 2019 In 2018-19... 15,644 children attended CAP UK workshops and assemblies across 84 schools. 100% of staff and headteachers would recommend CAP UK to other schools. “The team were so professional, friendly and passionate about what they were doing. ” Headteacher Children have the right to grow up safe, strong and free. As adults we are failing our children if we don’t act to protect their rights. Unfortunately, in the UK: ➔ 26% of children aged 10-15 report being bullied in the previous 12 months. ➔ 10% children aged 10-15 report being victims of crime. ➔ 15% of girls and 5% of boys in England and Wales are thought to experience some form of sexual abuse before the age of 16. CAP UK Child Assault Prevention builds safer communities for children. Our work with schools gives children the skills to stay safe and the confidence to tell an adult when something is worrying them. We also equip adults with the skills to protect children. Our unique preventative work has been helping children to stay safe in Devon since 1995. Last year we worked with over 15,000 children in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. Katharine Chant, chair of FoDA The Norden Survey Project Throughout 2019 first by seminar and now through seed funding we have initiated our very own FoDA led project. The focus of this project is the survey of Devon Crown lands that was compiled by the cartographer and surveyor John Norden in 1613. Norden's survey, which is held in the London Metropolitan Archives (LMA), describes in detail the land and resources belonging to eight Devon manors: Bovey Tracey, Ashburton, Bradninch, Buckfastleigh, Dunkeswell, Exeter Castle, Heathfield in Aveton Gifford, and Ottery St Mary. Each survey provides an exceptional amount of information about local people and their landscape in the early seventeenth century. The entry for each manor begins with a list of manorial resources and rights, including, mills, tin works, woods and parks, commons, and market charters, together with a precise description of the boundaries of the manor.

Introduction In response to the recommendations of the Planned & Reactive Maintenance: Potholes & Drainage Task Group presented to the Corporate, Infrastructure and Regulatory Services (CIRS) Scrutiny Committee in March 2019 an updated Performance Dashboard Report has been produced. The intention of this report is to provide Members with an overview of the performance of Devon Highways on key seasonal aspects of delivery. This report considers the following areas; Winter service; Cyclical drainage works; Carriageway safety defects; Civil parking enforcement. 2. Winter Service The period to the end of December has been very wet but has also experienced a significant number of marginal nights requiring treatment. The lowest temperature so far has been -4.2°C on 1st December. This has resulted in the overall level of treatments being about 80% of the average expected by this stage in the winter (see graph in Appendix A). The longer-range forecast is currently suggesting that a severe snow event or prolonged freeze is less likely this winter than average but that does not rule out cold spells. Skanska have been challenged in resourcing the winter service this year, due to the reduction in the overall scale of the work being passed through the contract affecting the size of their workforce and their plant. Subsequently more emphasis has been placed on sub-contract resources, to fill in the gaps. Whilst this has the potential to limit their flexibility in responding to unexpected changes in the forecast, to date they have responded to all the instructed service requests.
