New Commander

I am coming to the end of my second month at Charnwood and I’d like to say thankyou to everyone who has welcomed me to the area . It has been a busy period locally, I have been visiting parish councils and understanding local issues which matter to residents . I would also like to welcome PC 2174 Jerone Taylor and PC 4595 Hetal Tharanee to the Charnwood Neighbourhood Team , both bring with them a wealth of policing experience and have settled in well on N62 Central . We also see the return of Sgt 1865 Chris Wharton , he too will be an absolute asset to Charnwood and I look forward to working with all of the new team.

Newsletters

All Charnwood beats have now prepared a newsletter that outlines who your local team is and what issues are currently being addressed , together with information around engagement events . I will be asking beat Sgts to ensure these newsletters are available at key locations in Charnwood as I appreciate that now everyone uses social media.

Neighbourhood Watch

Last month I pledged to support Neighbourhood Watch and Sgt Chris Wharton has picked this project up and is already starting to make good progress reviewing where we are with Neighbourhood Watch with a view to identifying key local contacts who he will liaise with to bring the scheme back to the fore and make it fit for purpose . I'm committed to supporting communities that want to help the policing team and partners from Charnwood Borough Council make a difference , I know Chris has a real energy for this project and I look forward to seeing how this evolves .

Neighbourhood link

I would like to encourage residents in Charnwood to sign up to Neighbourhood Link , this is a free service and allows us to keep you better informed ,further details at www.neighbourhoodlink.co.uk/sign-up This will be the primary method of distributing beat newsletters .

Vehicle Crime

Over the past month we have seen an increase in car related crime especially around the villages of Quorn , , and Nanpantan . I understand residents concerns , in partnership with the council we have offered free car key wallets which are available from Charnwood Borough Council reception . Please remain vigi- lant , I would encourage residents to report any suspicious activity and I can reassure you that Police are taking this crime seriously . During the height of these offences last month , colleagues from the road policing team located two stolen cars in Sileby from offences elsewhere in Charnwood , seven people were arrested and this enforcement is an indication of how important our resolve is to target criminals engaged in the theft of cars . This month we have made further arrests in relation to the theft of vehi- cles , we will continue to work on this issue , I would please ask that any suspicious behaviour late at night or into the early hours is re- ported to the police giving us every opportunity to catch and disrupt these people.

Now that the summer has finally arrived please don’t give criminals the opportunity to take possessions from your unattended vehicles . Please keep cars locked when unattended , set the alarm and please remove all valuables from view .

Share the Road

Now that school terms are coming to a close , children will no doubt be out and about enjoying the holidays , please remember our Share the Road campaign .

Reduce your speed , serious road traffic collisions often occur when you least expect them , please make the roads a safer place for eve- ryone in Charnwood including motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders.
