As Supervisor, I am proud of our growing community. The warm and welcoming atmosphere found here is a tribute to our residents, the outstanding programs and services delivered through our local government, our commitment to public safety, sound fiscal management, and our business friendly climate. Since our birth in 1822, we have evolved from being a densely wooded area dotted with farms and orchards to a community approaching 100,000 residents. One thing remains the same, there is something for everyone in the Town of Greece. We are fortunate to be home to one of our region’s premier wetlands and habitat for wild life, Braddock Bay. We are also home to one of the largest retail centers in the Greater Rochester area, yet can still boast of our many neighborhood-based businesses. At Town Hall, we are responsible for a number of essential programs and services that benefit all residents. We maintain and plow the roads, have our own outstanding police department, a brand new state of the art library facility, 18 beautiful parks for active and passive recreation, and a department of human services offering a wide variety of programs for all ages. The Town continues to be recognized as one of the safest communities in the United States and is also recognized as a Tree City USA. If you are not a resident, it is my hope that you will visit our town and find that it would be a wonderful place to call home. The possibilities are endless and I’m certain you will see first hand that the Town of Greece is full of advantageous opportunity. Sincerely, John T. Auberger One Vince Tofany Boulevard • Greece, New York 14616 Supervisor (585) 225-2000 • www.townofgreece.org • (Fax) 225-1915 Dear Friend of Greece, On behalf of all the members of the Greece Chamber of Commerce, I want to thank you for being an important part of the Greece community. For those of you who have been residents for a long time, you are already familiar with many of the great assets that we have here in Greece. For those of you who may be new to the Greece Community, I can assure you that you will enjoy our great community. The Town of Greece has been recognized as one of America’s Safest Communities for the past four years. Our two historic waterfronts offer many attractions, in addition to the many wonderful parks and recreation facilities. Greece is a major market within Monroe County, representing approximately 10 percent of the entire Rochester Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). We have a strong retail and entertainment flavor, with easy access via our expressways and parkways. Thank you for supporting the Greece community. If I can ever help you in any way, please feel free to call. With Best Regards, Richard L. Working hand-in-hand, local businesses, parents, and residents have joined with the school district to focus on student learning as our central mission. Over the last four years, we have aggressively launched many improvement projects as part of our Strategic Framework planning process. We have improved our student achievement results, enhanced our instructional programs, provided strong fiscal management, garnered greater community support, vastly improved our aging facilities, and improved school and community relationships. On behalf of our young people, I welcome you as a partner in the educational process, and encourage you to become involved in any of the opportunities the District offers to show our commitment to student success. Working together, we are making this large community feel like a small hometown, building a world-class school district here in Greece, NY. Sincerely, Dr. Steven L. The history of old Charlotte, which became an incorporated village in 1869, was linked with that of the Town of Greece until 1916, when it became Rochester's 23rd Ward. In 1969, 25 Greece citizens came together in the Mitchell Road Library at the invitation of Virginia Tomkiewicz, the town historian. Their stated objective was an organization to collect, preserve and share items pertaining to local history. The fledgling organization would be named the HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF GREECE, NY. By 1971 the Society had grown to 150 members, and on September 24 it received a provisional charter from the New York State Board of Regents. The Greece Historcal Society Late in 1977, the Society gratefully accepted an offer from the town to use a small, but solid, Located on Long Pond Road house at 1077 English Road. Town historian, Virginia Tomkiewicz and historian Shirley Cox Husted began pooling their expertise in 1978. It was a gigantic task, but, in 1982, "Eight Miles Along the Shore" went on the market containing 212 pages and more than 300 photographs, sketches, and maps. It has won local and international honors for Flower City Printing and has earned glory and thousands of dollars for the Society. By 1986, the little house in English Road could no longer accommodate the monthly program meetings, so they were moved to the auditoria of the West Ridge Community Center. For years, the Greece Historical Society longed for a larger and more historic building - a facility that would enable it to teach large groups, especially classes of school children. Wegman's wish to build a shopping center on their property at the southwest corner of Latta and Long Pond Roads necessitated the removal of a lovely old house believed to be in the mid - 1850's.

The formation of one organization from two legacy agencies became official on June 1, 2015. In some ways, this milestone was the culmination of two years of planning. In other ways, it was just the beginning. Matt Perdue and Colin Garwood Our approach has been to proceed with great thought and deliberation at each step. We developed the brand, name, and logo through the efforts of empowered work groups. A comprehensive strategic planning process resulted in a new mission, vision, and values. As part of this process, we also set our strategic priorities for the first three years and developed a thorough set of “Now, we are deliverables to hold ourselves accountable for progress. poised to pursue We believe that all of this foundational work was necessary so that we can be clear about who we are our mission and and where we are going as an organization.
