8:30am Frank Grau & John Brenner to get accustomed. One very noticeable change of the Friday, June 5—Weekday Mass Holy Mass will be the singing, or, more precisely, the 8:30am Rudy Ilenin lack of singing.

Saturday, June 6—Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity (Vigil) According to the experts, regular speaking 4:00pm Norbert Zak voices carry air a distance of six feet; singing voices 6:00pm Jack Benek can carry up to 27 feet. Therefore, the congregation is Sunday, June 7—Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity discouraged from singing while in the church building. 9:00am Robert J. Kennedy Even wind instruments are forbidden. The cantor may 11:00am Herman & Margaret Evert lead us in song, so long as precautions are taken. We have placed a plastic shield in front of the cantor’s stand. Scripture Readings June 1—June 7

Monday Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church The lack of singing certainly takes away from GN 3:9-15, 20; 87:1-2, 3 & 5, 6-7; JN 19:25-34 the experience of the Holy Mass. It will take all of our Tuesday Saints Marcellinus and Peter, efforts to continue to stay joyful and lift up our hearts

Perhaps our little suffering will 2 TM 4:1-8; PS 71:8-9, 14-15AB, 16-17, 22; MK 12:38-44 remind us that we come to Mass to worship God, for Sunday The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity EX 34:4B-6, 8-9; DN 3:52—56; 2 COR 13:11-13; JN 3:16-18 God’s sake; not merely to feel good or be entertained. Even though it is not the same as it was, we will be faithful.

For many people, song is essential to their prayer life. I appreciate the way that music seems to move our spirits, our feet, and our emotions beyond any recited prayers. Yet, our sacred music is always directed toward giving praise to God, who has never abandoned us.

Thanks for praying with us and for us. I look forward to the day when we will sing in procession with all the Saints in glory and our churches will, once more, echo with chants and trumpet blasts. Until then, may the Holy Spirit light our hearts ablaze in a new way beyond what our ears can hear. In Christ,

Father Michael J. Stalla

Spiritual Communion Prayer

In his encyclical, "Ecclesia de Eucharistia" ("A Eucharistic Church"), Saint John Paul II encouraged the practice of spiritual communion, “which has been a wonderful part of Catholic life for centuries and recommended by saints who were masters of the spiritual life.” St. Thomas Aquinas described spiritual communion as “an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the most holy sacrament and lovingly embrace him” at a time or in circumstances when we cannot receive him in sacramental Communion.

We need Jesus' healing True Presence and He gives us the gift of spiritual communion so that we are not without Him even when we cannot attend Mass.

Did you know that the month of May is dedicated to Mary, Our Blessed Mother? The devotion to the Blessed Mother throughout May originated in in the 18th century and has spread throughout the whole world. Here in America our celebration of Mother’s Day also falls in May so this makes it appropriate to focus on honoring Mary’s role as Mother of God and of the whole Church. Some ways we can honor Mary this month are by putting a statue of Mary in a place of prominence in our homes, praying the Rosary or other Marian Prayers, and reading about Our Blessed Mother in the Scriptures.

“Let us run to her, and, as her little children, cast ourselves into her arms with perfect confidence.” -St. Francis de Sales
