CIRCLE OF DOMINANCE: UMass Lowell controlled the face-off cir- cle in the season opener winning 47 of 74 draws. Senior center Michael Fallon led the way winning 13 of 16 puck drops. Evan Campbell won 14 of 24 face-offs and Joe Gambardella had a 9-4 edge.

PUT IT ON THE BOARD: With the win against RPI UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin earned his 100th coaching win behind the River Hawk bench. Bazin becames the third River Hawk coach hit that milestone and the third winningest coach in the school’s history. He is also the fastest to the 100 win mark. His record of 100-47-13, in a four-plus year period (2011-15,) moves Bazin ahead of Bruce Crowder (1991-96, 99-75-19) on the UMass Lowell all-time win list. Billy Riley tops the all-time win list with 363 wins (363- 270-22). Blaise MacDonald is second (150-178-42.) Bazin’s .666 winning percentager is tops among UMass Lowell coaches. His first UMass Lowell win came against Minnesota State, 4-2, on October 14, 2011. In- cluding his three years behind the Hamilton bench, Bazin carries all-time mark of 138-78-20.

Six of his ten goals put the River Hawks in the lead, one tied the game. Sophomore C.J. Smith was second with six clutch goals. Senior Adam Chapie had five clutch goals and four other goals that gave UMass Lowell a two-goal lead. Sophomore Michael Louria had three clutch goals and two others that provided the team with a two-goal lead. Four of his six goals were eventual game winners.

SHORTHANDED, BUT DANGEROUS: UMass Lowell was second in the country with ten shorthanded goals during the 2014-15 campaign. Only North Dakota with 12 had more. Five different players scored while the River Hawks were down a man, junior Joe Gambardella led the team with three.

SCORING FROM THE BLUE LINE: UMass Lowell led Hockey East in offense produced by the defense. River Hawk defensemen scored 30-goals and 107 points. The 30 goals matched Denver and North Dakota for the top number in the nation and the 107 points ranked the River Hawks fourth in the country.

FILLING THE SEATS: UMass Lowell drew more than 100,000 fans for the first time in the program’s history. The twenty games played at the Tsongas Center attracted 102,390 people, an average of 5,120 per game. The River Hawks ranked second in Hockey East in home attendance behind Notre Dame who drew 103,008 in 23 home games. The UMass Lowell average of 5,120 was the third highest in the conference behind Connecticut and Boston College.

SUCCESS IS THE NORM: Norm Bazin is in his fifth season at UMass Lowell with a 100-47-13 record (.666) in 160 games with the River Hawks. He owns a 138-78-20 mark (.627) in 236 games now in eighth season as a collegiate head coach, which includes three seasons at Hamilton College. Bazin is the sixth head coach in program history and the fifth Div. I head coach (Riley, Crowder, Whitehead, MacDonald).
