The current owners already knew the house quite well when they bought it, 16 years ago. It actually belonged to some friends of theirs so they had been there a few times but just loved the house and the position as the house is set well back from the road. It’s also very well situated in the centre of the plot with lots of trees all around. Stuston is a great village, it’s very close to Diss but it doesn’t have the problem of other nearby villages as it doesn’t have the through traffic so it is very quiet. Dating from the 1700’s, although not listed, the cottage would originally have been a smallholding. On the inside, there are plenty of original features with lots of exposed beams and timbers. The current owners have carefully maintained the house over the years by adding a new boiler and a wood burner and made quite a few changes to the garden, by converting the clay lump shed into a home office and adding the garden store. Inside, the wonderful country kitchen is the center of the home with its rustic tiled floor and cosy Aga, The kitchen is the owners favourite part of the house as it’s so cosy and warm in the winter with the Aga. They usually run it from October to April and it keeps the house lovely and warm. Guests usually gravitate towards the kitchen, as it really is the hub of the home. There is also a cosy sitting room with a charming inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove as the focal point, ideal for curling up around on a cold winter’s night. Upstairs, the three bedrooms all have a wealth of rustic beams and timbers and there is an oak spiral staircase with exposed brickwork detailing. The cottage is wonderfully situated, looking out over the leafy and picturesque Stuston Common to the front and with open fields to the rear. The generous south facing gardens are very private and secluded and mostly laid to lawn and surrounded by mature hedges. There is also a large decking area that is perfect for barbecues and al-fresco dining in the summer months, or just sitting and relaxing in these very peaceful surroundings. The current owners have loved spending time in the garden as it is very quiet and peaceful, so quiet you can sit and not hear anything! It’s also very sunny in the summer months.
