CHICAGO CUBS

JON LESTER set a postseason career-high with 8.0 innings pitched … made his first-career postseason start at Wrigley Field … has gone 3-1 with a 0.91 ERA (3 ER/29.2 IP) in his last four postseason starts at home … is 4-4 with a 2.67 ERA (19 ER/64.0 IP) in nine Game One starts in his career.  Has 19 postseason with the Cubs, the most in Cubs history by a southpaw … surpassed Hippo Vaughn’s 17 strikeouts (all in the 1918 postseason).  Recorded his third postseason start of at least 7.0 innings pitched, also doing so in Game Four of the 2008 ALDS vs. the Angels (7.0 IP) and in Game One of the 2013 vs. St. Louis (7.2 IP).  Marked the longest outing in the postseason by a Cubs lefty since Steve Trout went 8.1 innings.

JAVIER BAEZ (2-for-3, HR, R, RBI) hit a game-winning solo homer in the eighth inning, his second-career postseason blast … both of his postseason homers have been go- ahead shots … is 7-for-18 in seven-career postseason games.

KRIS BRYANT (1-for-3, 2B) collected the Cubs first hit with a double in the fourth inning.

DAVID ROSS (0-for-2) became the first MLB with a pickoff and a caught stealing in the same postseason game since the Cubs’ Gabby Hartnett in Game Three of the 1935 World Series against Detroit (thanks STATS Inc.) … his caught stealing was the first of his postseason career (was 0-for-6 previously) … he led the majors with five catcher pickoffs in the regular season.

NOTES: The Cubs won Game One of an NLDS for just the second time in six tries (also, 2003 NLDS at Atlanta).  Chicago recorded its first postseason shutout at Wrigley Field since Game One of the 1984 NLCS vs. the Padres.  Marked the Cubs first 1-0 win in the postseason since Game Four of the 1906 World Series at the White Sox.  Aroldis Chapman (1.0 IP, H, SO) earned his first-career postseason save.

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

JOHNNY CUETO has gone 2-4 with a 4.54 ERA (21 ER/41.2 IP) in eight-career postseason games ... has recorded two-career postseason complete games, coming in each of his last two starts … also threw a complete game in Game Two of last year’s World Series vs. the Mets.  Struck out 10 batters, setting a postseason career-high mark.

BUSTER POSEY (2-for-4, 2B) recorded his 11th-career multi-hit game in the postseason.

NOTES: The Giants fell to 35-15 in postseason play since 2010, including a 19-8 mark on the road.  San Francisco was shut out in the postseason for the first time since Game Six of the 2014 World Series at Kansas City … the Giants lost a 1-0 postseason game for the first time since Game Six of the 1987 NLCS at St. Louis.  Before allowing a run in the eighth inning, the Giants had not allowed a run in their previous 23.0 postseason innings dating to the third inning of Game Seven of the 2014 World Series.  Giants pitchers have thrown complete games in each of their first two postseason contests.  Gorkys Hernandez (1-for-4) collected a leadoff single in his first-career postseason game.  Hunter Pence (1-for-4) has hit safely in eight of his last nine postseason games.  Conor Gillaspie (1-for-3) is 3-for-7 with a homer, run scored and three RBI in two games this postseason.
