GETTING TO WATCHET The closest large town is . From Taunton, a ride on bus 28 lasts nearly 45 minutes to the harbour town of Watchet, with hourly departures available most days.

SPEND A DAY EXPLORING THE HARBOUR TOWN OF WATCHET Watchet can be easily explored on foot. Between museums, local craft shops and eateries, a visit to Watchet makes for a pleasant day trip. Our recommended stops are listed below.

Watchet Visitor Center and Boat Museum: Within steps of the bus stop, start at the Boat Museum as this ​ building also contains the town’s visitor center. Entrance is free. (1 hour)

Next, make your way down Harbour Road toward the Marina and make a left on Esplanade. Review the listed map showing Watchet Heritage Trail and its 13 stops to further plan your day. Enjoy the walk by the marina, ​ ​ with photo stops by the monuments of Yankee Jack and the Ancient Mariner. ​ ​ ​ ​

Market House Museum: Explore more of Watchet’s maritime history at this small museum that packs a lot of ​ local history within its tiny space. Located where the Esplanade meets Market Street. Entrance is free. (1 hour)

FOSSIL BEACH Make your way to Fossil Beach via the narrow footpath that is found next to the steam railway line (with the ​ ​ sea on your left hand side). Follow the path to the cliff top, where you will reach a long set of steps that you can take to the beach. At the beach, you can explore for fossils or simply spend some time to enjoy the seaside. (1-2 hours).

HISTORIC CHURCH: ST. DECUMEN’S If you enjoy old churches, you can take a 15 minute walk to the Church of St. Decumen. This Grade I listed building has a 13th-century chancel with the rest of the church being from the 15th century.church. You can ​ ​ ​ ​ explore the grounds and gravestones. We recommend contact the church in advance of your visit to arrange a view of the inside (the doors were closed during our visit).

LEAVING WATCHET: If you are headed to or , we recommend taking the West ​ ​ Railway from Watchet. This is the longest heritage railway in England. Enjoy a ride on a steam train through ​ beautiful Somerset countryside.
