Academy Bounce Back to Form The Academy side produced a good performance last Saturday against Norland Sharks, after consecutive defeats on the road. On a warm dry day, the conditions suited our expansive game and it was just as pleasing that we managed a shut out in a 28-0 scoreline. The lads are on Humberside today, as they take on Beverley on their very narrow strip. Let’s hope they can enjoy the trip home celebrating another two points as they seek to consolidate a Premier Division top 4 slot.

Frustration for Academy A Our Academy A side had another blank weekend, when Dearne Valley informed us the night before the scheduled game that they were unable to raise a side last Saturday. That’s three blank weekends on the trot and the stop-start nature of the season is becoming a big frustration. Russ Holroyd has recruited plenty of new players for the summer campaign and today, his side should get back on the field as they are away to Farnley Falcons, who are second in the Yorkshire Men’s League Division 4 table.

Club Refurbishment I hope you will have seen the new flooring by the bar, as well as the sanded and polished dance floor, which has given the club a fresh look. We are also planning to give the club a lick of paint over the next few weeks. All of this work has been carried out from a donation by the Kabin Krew.

‘The Chevinedger Lottery’ Continued thanks to Scrimmy for the great fundraising work through the ‘Chevinedger’. The money raised through this club lottery has been used to support injured players, players selected for representative tours, trophies for presentation evenings, training kit and the list goes on. We still have spare numbers and with the amount of teams representing the club, it would be great to see new members. The cost is 5 pounds per month, with cash prizes every month. Last week, Bren Collins won £500.00 and Terry Tuck £125.00. If you would like to join please see Scrimmy, or just let one of the bar staff know.

Sidfest Our annual music festival is next Saturday. The gates are open at 1.00pm and entrance is 3.50. Please do try and come and support us on the day. A good Sidfest can generate as much as two months of typical income and is vital to give the club funds a boost.

Last Week:

We were brought back down to earth last week with a bump as we found ourselves 25-0 down after 25 minutes. The frustrating thing was that we gifted them 3 tries from errors and the other was from a kick. Great credit must go to the lads for fighting back to take the lead but in all honesty we didn’t deserve the win because of how bad we had played in the first half. This week will be no easier as we face and in-form Cas Lock Lane and one of the best players in the league in Chris Siddons. He is very much an ‘old-fashioned’ forward but a very good one and our pack will have to be on form to match him. If any of you wonder who Siddo is look out for the player piling on the factor 50 at every stoppage and running for the shade any chance he gets.

Summer is here Last week’s result was definitely down to the weather. Not because it was unbelievably warm (it’s the same for both sides) but because the sun was shining. We have more than an average amount of ginger players who simply can’t play in the sunshine – add to that the lads that have ginger skin – and we were never going to win when the sun came out. Whilst the ginger lads suffer when the suns out, some of our prettier lads couldn’t be happier. I’ve never heard so many comments about what their tan would look like and how they wouldn’t have to go on the sunbeds this week. I won’t tell you who it was making these comments (but one was a winger, one a rather large back rower and the other a full back…)

SidFest Seen as though we are all enjoying the sunshine it seems a good time to mention SidFest. The musical extravaganza is on a Saturday this year to allow more people to enjoy the event without the worry of work the next day. Some familiar faces are playing with Gaz Hooson opening the bill and Pete Howard playing later in the day. Unfortunately I will be in Lanzarote so won’t be there but as one of the lads said last week it may be a blessing me not being there as they won’t have to listen to my ‘horrendous rendition of Alouette’ - I hope Stores and Hirsty will carry on the tradition though. The event is on Saturday 18th June and it really is more the merrier – you won’t be disappointed if you attend. ‘Action from Siddal vs Leigh Miners Rangers’ Courtesy of Jade Smith www.siddalarlfc.co.uk / @SiddalRL / fb SiddalNCL & Siddal RL Please try to support our sponsors by giving them your business TOOL HIRE HIREChairman’s Chatter Adverts Chairman’s chatter SALESI Itsuspect would last take Saturday’s a brave game man against to call Pilkington this seasons was lost NCLbefore TAG TOOL HIRE thePremier kick off. Spotlight on our U11’s

In January Siddal U11s had a training session with Halifax rugby league 1st team as a reward for winning the inaugural M.B.I. cup. They beat their near rivals Elland in a close fought final, the team were presented with the trophy from Richard Marshall the Halifax coach.

Pre-season Siddal trained at Trinity Academy Halifax on Thursday nights on the astro-turf. And on Saturday mornings they went down to the local park at Shibden for fitness training. Plenty of the squad turned out in all weathers which was good to see.

The coaches for the U11s are Lee Greenwood, Chris Davidson and Karl Gregg, they put a lot of time and effort into the coaching. Thursdays was learning new skills and moves, Saturdays was full on fitness work in the mud and frost. It was gruelling, it has paid off as it keeps them in the games right upto the final whistle.

Silsden away was first up, they gave a good winning performance. That was followed up by losing narrowly to Oulton and Featherstone, the latter having not lost for over two years, so that was encouraging signs. They are still learning how to incorporate the newly learned skills from the training pitch into their games, and try and be more consistent. North Leeds was a one sided affair as Siddal scored 70 points, Normanton at home was a good display only to be marred by the visitors losing their heads, the ref had no option but to blow early.

Stanningley away was very pleasing on the eye, but alas Siddal just came up short. Their coach was Jamie Peacock, its good to see that professionals are involved with the juniors. was another good team effort but again just missed out on the win. Oulton away was very poor with no positives at all to take from a match they didn’t score in. This was a wake up call for everyone involved. Eastmoor at home was another level the whole team performed well despite running their visitors close.

Fev away Siddal were taught a lesson in basic rugby especially how to defend, overall though the team are improving, some players develop quicker, some need extra coaching, some are even new to rugby. The main thing is they enjoy training and playing and representing a good club like Siddal.

The U11s are a small team compared to other sides, winning or losing doesn’t bother them. They know that if they work hard for each other their time will come.
