www.ottexec.com • #OTTexec Page 1 Welcome to the 2020 OTT Executive Summit

020 has been a difficult year for many companies and Trender Research has 2not been spared. We were forced to cut back on employees and contractor hours and had two events canceled this year-- “Social & Livestreaming” in and “OTT Fest” in Atlanta. Like many businesses, schools, and families, we adjusted by moving our operations to a virtual model. To save costs, we paused production on our marquee “OTT Executive Magazine” and began plans to move from expensive print distribution to an all-digital (and more eco- friendly) magazine/community that will allow interaction, commenting, vlogs, and guest authors (more on that later). But like many companies, we didn’t retreat and instead took the time to strategize how to become stronger, more global, and to better serve our community. While many of us have had to struggle and have had to adjust, OTT has had a year of tremendous growth. For sure, the media and industry as a whole has taken its hits, especially in regards to content production. But streaming video has soared, and many OTT services have been launched or announced this year. That’s why we are so pleased to have been able to transform OTT Executive Summit into a virtual conference this year. I’m not going to lie, I do miss the collegial setting at the Marriott Marquis and the networking around breakfast, lunch, and our famous cocktail reception with THE best view of Times Square. But we’ve replaced that smaller gathering with an expanded three- day format that is both virtual and global. with over 1,250 attendees, 130 top- notch speakers, 38 sessions, 17 fireside chats, six keynote conversations, three Trender Panel focus groups, and two virtual cocktail receptions, I’m feeling pretty good about the change. Thank you all for joining us this year. 2021 can only get better, right? Here’s wishing you all the best for the remainder of 2020 and into the new year.

Best regards, Brian Mahony

Hear from the experts at designing and deploying UX—what are the trends, the opportunities, and the pitfalls. How is UX changing this year now that so many con- sumers are trapped at home? Are we making up for lost time socializing in real life by watching together? What is it about OTT that allows consumers to engage in ways that just weren’t possible with traditional TV? You can have the best content in the world but if people can’t find it your service is doomed. Content discovery is such a delicate balance of art and science. Designers are using AI, recommendation engines, even social media to attract eyeballs and direct them to content that best matches their interests, their past behavior, even their current moods. How can we best tailor an experience to give viewers what they want while still introducing them to new content they don’t know they want (yet)?

According to some research, ad-funded streaming services grow quicker than subscription services. For some types of content, or when the limit for subscriptions is reached, consumers might find it accept- able to watch . But can the ad experience be less intrusive and still serve its purpose? Can inventions such as pausing ads and targeted advertising a non-intrusive ad experience for consumers? Or are more interactive ads the way to go in the world of streaming? Are their ways to use OTT technology to better target (and monetize) streaming audiences? A panel of experts from the industry will discuss the latest development in video/TV advertising.

5:15pm -6:00pm Sports & OTT November 17th A Perfect Match

For some, sports and OTT is a match made in heaven. For one, streaming niche sports gives you global scale. And for the major sports that have been sliced and diced to death with stats and analysis, marry- ing new viewing options with data fans love is the perfect union. Sports is inherently a live experience, but one that fans love to come back to, so all modes of content streaming and VOD distribution can be explored. Finally, sports is ultimately a shared journey of fandom—how can we tap into shared, interac- tive, and social media to optimize the experience for fans?

Reliability and consistency. These are hallmarks of traditional broadcast where service operators have granular visibility into quality and delivery all the way down to the set-top box. But unlike that broad- cast which flows over a managed network, streaming video, often operating over the open internet, struggles with ensuring viewers have a broadcast-like experience. Whether that’s because of variable bandwidth networks or sudden spikes in viewers, streaming providers continue to struggle with QoS and QoE. But, streaming has a secret weapon: APIs. As more streaming workflow technologies are vir- tualized or become cloud based, they are increasingly embracing programmatic approaches to capturing and sharing data which can provide OTT platform operators and other streamers unparalleled insight into the entire workflow from glass-to-glass. In this panel, industry experts will explore the current state of streaming QoS and QoE and talk about strategies, solutions, and technologies to help streaming plat- form operators make better business and operational decisions that will improve the viewing experience at scale.
