By Nicole Davis Cheers filled the Southport Community Center on March 12 as Cub Scout Pack #499 and their families raced the boys’ handmade wooden racecars to see who made the fastest car. With more than 30 Cub Scouts, 11 siblings and their parents, the exhilaration spread throughout the room. “It’s a great event with a high excitement level, promoting comradery with the boys,” says Kendra Colberg, a parent. “It promotes a sense of pride in creating the car from start to finish. There was a really good moral this year with the boys cheering on each other’s cars. I don’t know if it was the flags this year the kids had to wave, but everyone was excited and happy to be there.” Cub Scout Joshua Hensley was named the overall winner.
