@StMaryWoodstock Text LoveGod to 84576 Next Week’s Gospel Visita paginas 6 y 7! Mahew 4:1-11 A LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten Season. We commence this most sacred celebraon with the tradional ashes put on our foreheads as a way of reminding ourselves of the finitude of our lives in this world; “We are dust and to dust we shall return.” and our need for conversion in order to prepare for our lives in the world to come; “Turn away from your sin and believe in the Gospel.” The life that awaits us in heaven is the fruit of the Lord’s victory on the cross. As we became sharers of the risen Christ’s life in Bapsm, we too will overcome death and experience resurrecon, God’s greatest gi of all. We keep in mind that this gi is a present reality already, though yet to be perfected when the Lord comes again. This risen life must already be made manifest in our lives by striving to be faithful each day to the Lord’s command to love.

Chrisans all over the world observe , which is forty days of prayer, fasng and almsgiving in preparaon for the celebraon of Easter, the feast of the Resurrecon. The number of days involved has strong biblical foundaon signifying a period of preparaon for something life-changing to happen. Some examples include: Noah and the 40-day flood in preparaon for the renewed world; the Israelites and their 40 years of journey into the desert in preparaon for selement of the Promised Land; Moses and his 40 days of prayer and fasng at Mt. Sinai before he gave the Law; Jesus Himself and His praying and fasng in the desert before beginning His ministry as we heard in today’s Gospel reading.

The season of Lent is our opportunity to prepare during these 40 days for a life-changing event to happen – Easter. The journey is going to be inward and the road that will help us to get there is prayer, fasng and almsgiving. During this season, the Church is asking us to intensify our prayer life, to pracce morficaon, and to do the works of mercy. One sure thing that can help us to have a prayerful and fruiul Lenten celebraon is the frequent recepon of the sacraments, such as the Eucharist and Reconciliaon. Have you considered aending daily Mass? Why daily Mass? Why not?

Sincerely Yours In Christ, Fr. Burt Absalon, Pastor
