Apple Bug - September 2016 6 Main Presentation: macOS High Sierra (Mac) by Leigh Harvey

Late last month Apple released macOS High Sierra, the next generation For me it will mean a vast difference in the storage of files. For example, of the Mac . At first look, it appears that nothing much I keep copies of my Apple-Q HowTo Tutorial files in several different is different, but in fact this update brings in a couple of big ‘under the locations: Apple-Q-Core, Apple-Q-cloud, Applications & Utility hood’ changes. Freeware, Training, Presentations, Disk of the Month, Birthday Disk... I The first is a whole new file system called APFS or Apple File System. performed a search of the Apple-Q Server and found that I had six or Why is it such a big deal? The old HFS+ was designed for small, slow, more copies of most of these tutorials let alone all of the Freeware and mechanical drives and was never expected to deal with vast terabyte Open Source software. I checked the total size of these tutorials and drives, let alone solid state ones. Apple describes this new file system found that I had over 36 GB. If I could remove all of the duplicates I as: would save around 30 GB from just these files alone. APFS has the potential of doing this, let alone speed up the duplication of • Advanced. There is a new standard being released called Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray which will hold up to 100 GB; which is my total internet allocation for the month and take me over 100 hours just to download. With the new H.265 compression it would be possible to place a 4K movie on a standard high capacity (50 GB) Blu-ray disk. This all sounds good but will your graphics processor (GPU) be up to the task; enter Metal 2. It is built into macOS and allows your Mac to unleash the full power of your GPU. It also allows for machine learning, virtual reality and external GPU support. So now when your Mac’s GPU becomes too slow you no longer have to buy a new Mac, you just plug in an external GPU box, put on your virtual reality goggles and keep on Mac-ing! Come to the meeting and see if it is right for you... and your Mac.
