NOTES OF THE NIGHT

The Flyers continue to operate as the NHL’s best faceoff team with a 55.4 percent rating, coming in just over two percentage points ahead of St. Louis. The team’s six primary faceoff players are as follows:

Scott Laughton – 60.0 pct Jordan Weal – 59.6 pct Claude Giroux – 58.6 pct Sean Couturier – 55.5 pct Jori Lehtera – 54.3 pct Nolan Patrick – 53.9 pct

Of 145 players that have taken at least 130 faceoffs this year, three of the top four are Flyers – Laughton is second, Weal is third and Giroux is fourth. Couturier is 19th, Lehtera is 32nd and Patrick is 43rd.

As a team, the Flyers have been 50 percent or better on faceoffs in 22 out of 28 games this season.

The Flyers are searching tonight for their first power play goal since Nov. 17 vs. Tampa Bay, a span of eight games; however, they have only had 13 power play opportunities in the eight games since that date, an average of 1.63 per game. They were averaging 3.31 power play opportunities per game in the 19 games before that. The penalty kill has been more productive – the Flyers have two shorthanded goals in their last four games.

The Flyers are allowing 29.9 shots per game, which is seventh-fewest in the league. They are one of just seven teams allowing fewer than 30 shots per game. At 5v5, the Flyers have allowed the fourth-fewest shot attempts against in the league (SOG + missed attempts + blocked attempts).

Claude Giroux enters the game with 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points, which puts him in the team lead in scoring by 13 points. He is tied for 16th in the league in overall scoring and is tied for 14th in assists. Earlier this season, Giroux moved into second place in franchise history in the assists category. He now trails only Bobby Clarke (852) on that list. Giroux this season has also moved into fourth place in franchise history in games played (currently 759) and in overall points (currently 704). In both categories, Giroux trails only Clarke, Bill Barber and Propp.

Ivan Provorov is averaging 24:46 of ice time per game, which is 13th in the league.

Radko Gudas leads the Flyers and is 10th in the league with 87 hits, while Robert Hagg is just behind him at 84.
