Day 2: Amakoro Songa Kinigi Lodge, Volcanoes National Park (Mon, 5 August) Volcanoes National Park Bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rwanda, the Volcanoes National Park is best known as a sanctuary for the region’s rare mountain gorillas. Visitors flock here to experience a face to face encounter with these intriguing creatures. The park is set high on the jungle-covered slopes of the volcanic Virunga Mountains. Note: Wear comfortable shoes and clothes today. P a g e | 6 Gorilla Trekking Wake early for a hearty breakfast to give you the energy needed for gorilla trekking. Before 8:00am, report to the ranger station for registration and a talk by one of the rangers. The guides will then take you through the bush, pushing your way through the undergrowth, to track the gorillas. (Please note this trek can take from 30 minutes to 5-6 hours). A reasonable degree of fitness is required, as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them ‘talk’ to one another, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male, the Silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. It's amazing to think there are only about 650 of these beautiful creatures left. Included All meals provided. Day 4: Kigali Marriott Hotel, Kigali (Wed, 7 August) Day Itinerary Check-out and explore the city of Musanze, situated in northwest Rwanda - hub of the country's gorilla trekking industry. Later in the morning visit the Karisoke research centre known as The Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund International. The Fossey Fund is invested in improving quality of life for communities located near gorilla habitat and supports local infrastructure and providing conservation education programs to students. Continue transfer to back to Kigali. Overnight: Kigali Marriott Hotel Musanze The bustling city of Musanze also referred to as Ruhengeri, is situated in northwest Rwanda. Musanze is the hub of Rwanda’s gorilla trekking tourism offering many cafes, bars, restaurants and a range of accommodation options. It serves as the gateway to the spectacular Volcanoes National Park and its amazing mountain gorilla experiences. Surrounded by lush landscape, the town is encircled by a number of attractions including the towering Mount Karisimbi, one of five impressive volcanoes in the park; the bat- filled Musanze Caves; and the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo set against a spectacular verdant backdrop of rolling hills. It is known as one of the best places in East Africa to track mountain gorillas and visitors flock here to view these majestic mountain apes. Volcanoes National Park Dian Fossey Tomb Tour Volcano National Park Dian Fossey Tomb Tour is located in Rwanda, Africa. The historic location was the home and research facility of primatologist Dian Fossey. Visitors can trek through the forest to reach the location, taking in the spectacular views. The trekking tour is about 1.5 hours long and visitors will see wildlife such as birds, forest hogs, forest elephants and a variety of primates.     Statement of outcomes of the 6th Africa Initiative meeting 1st March 2019, Kigali, Rwanda 1. On 28 February – 1st March 2019, 68 delegates from 22 African countries and 11 Africa Initiative partners came together in Kigali, Rwanda, for the 6th meeting of the Africa Initiative (see annex 1). 2. The Africa Initiative was launched for a period of three years by the OECD hosted Global Forum in 2014 along with its African members and development partners (see annex 2). The Initiative aims to ensure that African countries can realise the full potential of progress made by the global community in implementing tax transparency and in international tax cooperation. With encouraging first results, its mandate was renewed for a further period of three years (2018-2020) in Yaoundé in November 2017. Countries participating in the Africa Initiative have committed to meeting specific and measurable targets in implementing and using the international tax transparency standards. 3. The delegates welcomed the attendance and support of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Central Africa Monetary and Economic Community (CEMAC), the East Africa Community (EAC), the Organisation for the harmonisation of business law in Africa (Organisation pour l’Harmonisation en Afrique du Droit des Affaires – OHADA) and the European Union for the first time at an Africa Initiative meeting. 4. Emphasising the increasing political focus on tackling illicit financial flows (IFFs) from Africa, delegates discussed how to convert political attention into tangible deliverables. They acknowledged that enhanced tax transparency is an important part of the solution to fighting tax evasion which in turn is a major component of IFFs.

    - A Wilderness Kitchen - Bisoke Lava Pudding The evocative scene of Mount Bisoke is a dominant feature of the scenic views from Bisate Lodge. This dessert was inspired by the events of 1957 when Bisoke last erupted. Today a crater lake is found on the summit, inspiring the name Bisoke – the Swahili word for “soaked with water” Ingredients Method 2 eggs 1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). Place the eggs, yolks and 2 egg yolks vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer and whisk for 4–5 1 tsp vanilla extract minutes or until very thick and pale. Add caramel treat and 11/4 cups (450 g) tinned caramel treat/dulce de leche coffee and whisk on low speed until just combined. ½ cup (125 ml) strong Rwandan coffee ¼ cup (35 g) plain (all-purpose) flour, sifted 2. Add the flour and carefully fold through the mixture. Divide the mixture between 4 cup metal dariole moulds. 3. Place the moulds on a small baking tray and cook for 10 minutes or until golden brown but still slightly soft in the middle. Allow to stand in the moulds for 1 minute. 4. Using a small knife, carefully loosen the edges of the mould and invert the puddings onto the plates. Serve immediately with ice cream. Serves 4 mountain gorilla Mount Bisoke MountBisoke (or Visoke for some) is a dormant volcano that stands 3711 metres above sea-level and rises from the border, sharing a home with the Congo. The greater part of its mass, however, is located in Rwanda and forms part of the Virunga Massif range of the Volcanoes National Park.
