Councillor's Annual Report Councillor’s Annual Report This is the report by the Councillor below regarding his key activities over the year ending 31 March 2014. It is provided for the information of all constituents and for no other purpose. The views expressed in this report are those of the Councillor and not necessarily reflect the views of the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Councillor: Vaughan Hughes Ward: Lligwy Group: Plaid Cymru Role & Responsibilities Between May 2013 and March 2014, I sat on the following * Attendance Figures main committees / sub-committees: (supplied by IOACC) Appeals (attendance on a rota basis) 3 Appointments 6 (85%) Audit 1 (20%) Council 13 (100%) Democratic Services (Chair) 4 (100%) Licensing 1 (100%) Planning & Orders 10 (100%) * The statistics provided are relevant only to the committees listed in this table. The statistics do not include attendance at other meetings related to the work of the Council. I am a member of the Isle of Anglesey Charitable Trust (I attended 1 meeting). I also represent the Council on TALNET (Joint Association of Libraries) Constituency Activity I have been available at every opportunity to provide advice and support to everyone in the ward who contacts me and it has been my privilege to do so ever since I was re-elected onto Anglesey County Council in May last year. I must also pay tribute to the other two Councillors representing the dispersed Lligwy Ward. We work together at every opportunity and put the welfare of the electors before self-benefit. When referring electors’ complaints and concerns to the attention of officers in the relevant departments, I have found them to be very sympathetic and eager to help. Although some problems were more difficult to solve than others the vast majority of electors appreciated the fact that conscientious attempts were being made to address the issues that were of concern to them. In accordance with the principle of sharing responsibilities which I referred to earlier, we agreed between us as Lligwy Councillors that my main responsibility would be Pentraeth Community Council. I would like to think that the arrangement is working well and I’m very pleased with the constructive and warm relationship that I have with the Pentraeth members. I have also been present at meetings of Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf and Llaneugrad Community Councils. I have also attended governors meetings at Llanbedrgoch Primary School and Llangefni Secondary School and I am a member of specific panels that meet between the meetings of the full governing body. Initiatives & Special Activities It was a pleasure to be present at the opening ceremony of Llanbedrgoch’s magnificent Community Centre in April. My first task when I was originally elected for the Llanbedrgoch Ward was to be a small part of the successful attempt to persuade Welsh Government to extend support of nearly a quarter of a million pounds to adapt the old church hall to be a resource that we can all be proud of. As Chair of the Democratic Services Committee within the Council and the Member Development Champion, it gave me special pleasure this year to receive the Welsh Charter for Councillor Support and Development from the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA). Learning & Development I have attended the following learning and development initiatives during the past year: (Information supplied by the IOACC) Introduction to Member Support May 2013 Ethnical Framework May 2013 Welsh Language/Data Protection/Press & Media May 2013 Training on the Register of Interests May 2013 Planning Committee Training June 2013 Corporate Planning Meeting June 2013 General Chairing Skills June 2013 Licensing Committee Training July 2013 Introduction to Audit Committee July 2013 Making Social Media Work for Councillors September 2013 Shadow Executive Training September 2013 Effective Recruiting Training September 2013 Training Sessions – Ian Bottrill October 2013 PINS Training November 2013 General Introduction on Planning Matters December 2013 Session 3 – Shadow Executive January 2014 Other Activities & Issues Bro Goronwy – in Lligwy Ward – will be responsible for staging Eisteddfod Môn in 2015. The three Lligwy Councillors have been members of the committees that arrange the festival. As Chair of the literature and reciting committee, I am pleased to say that we have already drawn out a list of the various competitions, secured quality adjudicators and that a wide cross-section of the ward have been extremely generous in donating a chair, crown and significant financial prizes for the Eisteddfod. Councillor Vaughan Hughes April 2014 .

  • Archaeologia Cambrensis No
Introduction to this Reprint Edition In 1899 the expatriate Welsh scholar Edward Owen wrote from his sanctum in the India Office to J. Lloyd Griffith,1 Treasurer of the Cambrian Archaeological Association, noting the recent cataloguing of British Museum Additional Manuscript Archaeologia Cambrensis No. 33636, a volume which he predicted would be of ‘considerable interest to Anglesey antiquaries ’. This was one of a series of volumes in which the Reverend John Skinner, Rector of Camerton in Somersetshire described the tours which he ______ undertook over many years in various parts of England and Wales, around the turn of the 19th century. In Owen ’s view, Skinner probably took his inspiration for these TEN DAYS= TOUR journeys from Thomas Pennant, whose Tour in Wales , made in the 1770s and published in two volumes in 1778 and 1783, was widely read. Owen considered that THROUGH Skinner’s account ‘formed no unworthy supplement ’ to those of his famous predecessor. According to Owen, Skinner was well-acquainted with Sir Richard Colt Hoare2 THE ISLE OF ANGLESEA and sometimes toured with him, though not in Wales. This is very intriguing in the light of Colt Hoare’s later and much more well-known antiquarian activities, 3 DECEMBER, 1802 especially his joint tours through Wales in the company of Richard Fenton. Anglesey seems to have been the only Welsh county in which Skinner toured, although he was interested in Monmouthshire. One of his volumes deals exclusively with that county and it is frequently mentioned in others. Owen noted that the BY Anglesey volume was in fact written up by Skinner’s brother Russell, based on rough notes made by the two travellers during their journey.
