We spoke to residents about their reasons for backing and supporting Mark in May 2nd. Harold and Mary Seaman from Astley Village said, “We appreciate the work Mark has undertaken in our village over the years, his achievements in securing funding for projects and especially the Lottery funding that refurbished the Coach House in Astley Park. Mark has our backing on 2nd May.” Lorraine Kearney MD of Cheeky Monkeys in Whittle added, “Mark was at the official opening of Cheeky Monkeys in 2009 and has been on hand for any issues or initiatives relating to young people that we or the wider community have been involved in. As a business, that has young people of all abilities at its core, we value his support and direction in such events.” Aidy Riggott from Buckshaw says, "I have found Mark a big help, extremely supportive, providing great advice with a wealth of experience in resolving issues for my community. This, combined with his well known commitment and passion for community and youth projects, makes Mark a great example of what residents look for in a local Councillor and I will be supporting him.” Phil Harrison from Buckshaw said, “Mark saw a need in Buckshaw to provide activities for young people, he obtained the funding to set up the Friday evening youth club. It opened in 2009 and has been a huge success. Mark volunteers his time for the community he represents:- Mark spends a considerable amount of his time securing funding for projects in the community, organising children’s holiday activities, he is the welfare officer for a junior football club, 3 Cllr Ma rk runs a young people’s group and he is actively involved in two school governing bodies. He has pressed for road adoptions, new bus shelters and secured the no 14 bus service in Buckshaw.
