13 MANAGER DELWYN YOUNG

The State College Spikes return to action with a new skipper in 2021 as former major league outfielder Delwyn Young takes the reins of the club for the inaugural season of the MLB Draft League.

Young, 38, has deep bloodlines in . His fa- ther, Delwyn Young Sr., played Minor League base- ball from 1981-1994, and his uncle, Selwyn Young, also played in parts of five Minor League seasons from 1981-1995. Young’s grandfather, Fate Young, served as a Major League scout for more than four decades.

“Coming from a huge baseball family and all the years spent in a uniform or around a baseball diamond, I had never heard of an opportunity such as the MLB Draft League,” Young said. “I believe an opportunity of this magnitude will change the land- scape of baseball for generations to come.”

As a player, Young was twice drafted by the (31st round, 2000; 29th, 2001) but opted not to sign on both occasions, ultimately beginning his career in 2002, after the Dodg- ers had selected him in the fourth round. He went on to play in parts of five Major League seasons with the Dodgers (2006-08) and (2009-10), compil- ing a .258 average with 17 home runs and 37 doubles in 344 games. After playing for Triple-A () in 2011, Young spent the next five seasons playing for the (2012-13) and (2014-16) in the Independent Atlantic League.

After completing his playing career, the Los Angeles, Calif. native held coaching posi- tions with the (2018) and (2019). He also serves as an instructor for the Skeeters.

“For me, it was a simple decision to get involved in the MLB Draft League: I had my opportunity to play ; now, it’s time to pay it forward to younger generations,” said Young. “I love the nature of the league, helping amateur players discover their potential over the course of a season in a professional atmosphere. My family and I are excited about this summer, to say the least.”

21 IKE THE SPIKE

Standing 6 feet, 2 inches (or so), and weighing it at a buck fifty, from the woods of Central PA, it’s Ike the Spike!

Ike has been the ambassador for the Spikes all over Central PA since he first repelled down the backstop and greeted players and coaches from the State Col- lege Little League on May 6, 2006. With many deer friends across the region, Ike is a busy individual the whole year visiting school programs, charity functions, birthday parties and more events where people like to have fun!

Most of all, Ike looks forward to seeing all of his buddies at the ballpark for State College Spikes home games! Ike loves to dance and make people laugh for a few bucks, so if you see him, say hello – only opposing MLB Draft League teams need to “Fear the Deer” as far as Ike is concerned!

You can bring Ike out to your next party or function by contacting the Spikes at 814-272-1711, or by e-mailing [email protected]!

Alcoholic Beverage Policy - Pennsylvania law requires that you must be at least 21 years of age to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. Fans wishing to purchase beer at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park must first obtain a wristband from an ID station located on the first-level concourse. In order to obtain a wristband, a valid ID must be presented. No fan will be served at any concession stand without wristband. We reserve the right to refuse any sale. There is a two-beer maximum per ID. Please drink responsibly, and NEVER drink and drive.

We have established the following ground rules for alcohol sales to ensure that the enjoy- able ballpark experience is not spoiled by the behavior of inappropriate individuals: 1. It is illegal to consume alcoholic beverages on the sidewalks or in the parking lots; anyone doing so will be subject to arrest. 2. Alcoholic beverages and controlled or illegal substanc- es may not be brought into the stadium. 3. Drunk or disorderly fans will be denied admit- tance to the stadium. 4. Intoxicated or under-aged fans will not be permitted to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. 5. Drunk or disorderly fans inside the stadium will be ejected and may be subject to arrest. 6. Fans using foul or abusive language will be subject to ejection. 7. Fans interfering with play in any manner, including the throwing of objects onto the field or entering the field, will be subject to arrest.

Animals - Fans are not permitted to bring animals into Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, with the exception of guide or service animals for disabled fans, which are fully certified by Pennsylvania and are in actual use. Bark in the Park rules and regulations can be found at StateCollegeSpikes.com.

Autographs - To begin the 2021 season, in accordance with COVID-19 protocols, players are not allowed to sign in-person autographs or have per- son-to-person contact with fans. However, fans purchasing items at Off the Rack Outfitters can ask Spikes staff to have those items taken to the clubhouse for players to sign.

Bag Policy - All bags brought into Medlar Field at Lubrano Park should be clear bags that can be seen through easily, reducing times for bag searches at entrance gates. Diaper and medical bags are not subject to this policy. Regardless of the bag, all bags are subject to search upon entry and within the ballpark. Prohibited items should be disposed of in trash containers or returned to one’s vehicle.
