Boston Cannons Game Notes WEEK THIRTEEN PREVIEW: BOSTON CANNONS AT DENVER OUTLAWS Page 9

Boston looks for a season series win on Saturday at Peter Barton Stadium in Denver

QUINCY, MA - With a logjam in the standings, the Boston Cannons will travel to Denver this weekend as their push for the playoffs continues. The Cannons and Outlaws are tied for second in the MLL at 7-5 and will play their third and final game against each other on Saturday.

The Cannons are coming off a loss to the rising Dallas Rattlers, who beat Boston 13-10 at Veterans Memorial Stadium last week. The Cannons scored the first two goals of the game but allowed the Rattlers to go on a nine-goal run in the first half, which put them in a big hole. The Cannons made some changes at halftime and allowed just three goals in the final two quarters after yieldi ng 10 in the first half. They pulled within a few goals in the final quarter, but the Cannons saw their offense shut down by a confident Rattlers squad.

Kyle Denhoff led the Cannons with four points, which included a 2-pointer in the second quarter. Mark Cockerton, Connor O'Hara, Will Sands, and Zed Williams all picked up two points each. Goaltender Nick Marrocco made 12 saves on 25 shots and long-stick midfielder Ryland Reesled the defense with four groundballs.

The Outlaws earned a 16-13 win over the New York Lizards in Week 12 to end their four-game losing streak. MLL legend John Grant Jr. led Denver with seven points off two goals and five assists, while attackmen Chris Aslanian and Ryan Lee tallied five points each. The Outlaws also scored two 2-point goals in the win, coming from Zach Currier and Andrew Newbold. Max Adler won 20-of-31 faceoffs to improve his league-leading to 60.45%. Dillon Ward stopped 13 of 26 shots on goal to get the win.

The Cannons last played the Outlaws on August 3, when they picked up a 16-13 win in a solid team performance. The Cannons forced Denver to pull Ward after he made just one save on eight shots in the first quarter. Backup goalie Christian Knight played th e final three quarters and made six saves on 15 shots. Sands tallied three goals and three assists to lead Boston with six points and Marrocco made 16 saves on 29 shots; the two were Boston's best players in the win. Also, the Cannons defense held Currier to one point and Grant Jr. to three, but it was Lee who led Denver with five goals and an assist.

In their first meeting this season back on June 29, the Outlaws escaped with a 17-16 win in Quincy after Zach Runberg netted the game winner in the final minute.

Boston needs a quick turnaround from its offense, which went cold for most of the first half la st week. The Cannons admitted their ball movement and shooting in the offensive zone wasn't up to par and will stress these areas in practice this week. Furthermore, the Cannons solved the Denver defense quickly in their last matchup, and they're confident they can do it again with the personnel they have.

On the defensive side of things, the Cannons need a full sixty-minute effort. They made the right adjustments at halftime last week, but were a little out of sorts in the opening thirty minutes. The Outlaws have some athletic dodgers, so the Cannons will need to do a better job of keeping guys to the outside and sliding at the right time.

With a 1-1 tie in the season series between Boston and Denver, this weekend's game is pivotal as the playoff push intensifies. A series win for either team could play a big role in a potential tiebreaker, so there's a lot on the line for both teams. The Cannons need to rebound from a disappointing showing in Week 12, which won't be easy against a very strong Denver team.

The Cannons and Outlaws faceoff at 5:00 pm est, and you can catch all the action LIVE on NBC Sports Boston (check your local l istings), on the NBC Sports My Teams App, or stream online at nbcsports.com for free.

Boston Cannons Game Notes THREE TAKEAWAYS: BOSTON VS DALLAS Page 10

Cannons look back on Week 12 and use struggles to prepare for Denver on Saturday.

QUINCY, MA - On Saturday, the Cannons took the field in Quincy knowing that a win would help them clinch an early playoff berth. With a surging Dallas Rattlers team coming to town on a four-game winning streak, the Cannons knew it wasn't going to be easy.

The Cannons got off to a 2-0 lead in the first 5:28, but the Rattlers used a nine-goal first half run to put the game out of Boston's reach. The Cannons fell to 7-5 with the loss and their fight for a playoff spot continues.

Here are three takeaways from Boston's 13-10 loss to Dallas.

A Different Dallas Offense…

Going into the Week 12 matchup, the Cannons were 2-0 in the season series against the Rattlers and outscored them 31-21 in the two games. However, Dallas has been one of the hottest teams in the MLL s ince mid-July and the Cannons knew they'd be playing a totally different team.

Bryce Wasserman, playing the X-position for Dallas, drew a few double teams that created space for others to find the back of the net. The Rattlers also used the transition game to create some opportunities on offense, and they capitalized a few times when the Cannons were out of position. Overall, the Rattlers' improvements were evident in their win.

"Their off-ball movement, cutting, [and] two-man game has improved drastically," said Cannons long-stick midfielder Ryland Rees. "It got us tonight and let's hope they don't get us at the end of the year here."

After surrendering 10 goals in the first two quarters, the Cannons changed their defensive matchups in the second half and allowed just three goals. Jack Curran and Bradley Voigt, both of whom scored hat-tricks in the first half, were held scoreless in the final two quarters. The coverage on Wasserman got a lot better as the game went on. Unfortunately for the Cannons, it was too little, too late.

Offensive Ball Movement…

The Cannons finished Saturday's game with 25 shots on goal, but there were moments during the sixty minutes where they struggled to get shots off. There were also a few possessions where the Cannons either held onto the ball too long or got rid of it too quickly. These problems, while they are certainly fixable, were costly in Boston's loss.

"We didn't spin the ball very fast," said midfielder Kyle Denhoff. "The ball was staying in the stick too long. When we're at our best, the ball is moving and we're getting shots and we just need to work on that. We weren't getting the shots we wanted. We were making some nice moves, but their goalie made some saves, credit to him. Like I said, when we're at our best the ball is moving and we're shooting from inside ten."

The Rattlers defense was a lot better this time around than they were in the first two meetings. Their double-team game stumped the Cannons at times and they closed on guys quickly to eliminate shooting lanes. Their aggressiveness down low caused Boston to force a few plays, especially in the first half. The Cannons started to get back into the game in the third and fourth quarters, but they couldn't quite solve the Rattlers on Saturday.

"We just weren't getting the ball out of our stick quick enough to see that open guy," said Cannons Head Coach Sean Quirk. "I know that's something we got to continue to work on."

Denhoff Stepping Up…

With Challen Rogers out of the lineup, Denhoff saw more minutes on the top midfield line and finished the game with four points, including a big 2-pointer in the second quarter. He's stepped his game up and has been one of Boston's best players over the last few weeks.

"Early in the season, I fractured my wrist in week three and I was out for five weeks," said Denhoff. "During those five weeks, they didn't let me lift so I was running a lot. My legs feel good and I'm just hoping to help us clinch a playoff spot now."

Denhoff is seventh on the Cannons with 12 points in seven games but leads the team with two 2-pointers. His shooting and speed have both been noticeable since returning from injury and he's stepping up at the right time. Boston is hoping to clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2015 and Denhoff, in his seventh MLL season, will be a huge help down the stretch.

The Cannons are back in action on Saturday, August 31 in Denver. You can watch the game LIVE on NBC Sports Boston starting at 5:00 pm est (check your local listings) & on the NBC Sports My Teams App or NBCSports.com stream for free.

Boston Cannons Game Notes PLA Y ER NEWS POWERED BY CITIZENS BANK: CANNONS ACQUIRE SSDM JOHN DANIGGELIS JR FROM NEW YORK Page 11

Daniggelis has played in five games into his rookie season

QUINCY, MA - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today they have acquired midfielder John Daniggelis from the New York Lizards in exchange for Attackman Nate Solomon and a fourth-round pick in the 2020 Collegiate Draft.

Daniggelis, a 2019 graduate of , was drafted 33rd overall by the Lizards during the collegiate draft in March. In 69 games for the Bulldogs, Daniggelis amassed 39 goals, 18 assists, and 75 groundballs. As a senior this year, he captained the Bulldogs and was named to the First-Team All-Ivy after notching 21 goals and nine assists in 19 games.

Daniggelis appeared in five games for the Lizards this season, recording two goals, three groundballs, and one caused turnover. This addition bolsters the Cannons depth at midfield, specifically the short-stick defensive unit. Daniggelis will complement a unit that's made up of Matt Bertrams, Matt Dziama, Tim Edwards, and Zach Goodrich.

Solomon, a 2019 graduate of , was selected by the Cannons in this year's rookie relocation draft. The attac kman scored 26 goals and 15 assists as a senior this year and finished his college career with 84 goals and 40 assists. He tallied one assist in in two games for Boston this season, but struggled to find consistent playing time in a deep attack unit.
