August, 2018

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Though I'm out of school now and working, August still reminds me of the “back to

school butterflies” I used to feel before the start of a new year. I would get nervous to have new teachers, new classmates, and changes. During these nervous times

there would still be some excitement to meet new people and make new friends, but the butterflies were hard pressed to go away. On a greater scale, the changes

that constantly occur in our lives can be scary. We all know that trials or difficulties yet to come WILL occur in our own lives and around us. Sometimes fear of the future can be paralyzing. I want to share a couple popular quotes from Elder Holland’s conference talk “An High Priest of Good Things to Come” as encouragement: “Don't you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead.” “Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don’t come until heaven; but for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come.” “You keep your chin up. It will be all right in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to come.” I believe those same words apply to us all. Let’s look forward with faith, not fear. Let’s be excited for what is to come. -Bro. Christensen

In one of the temples I read Section 109 of the Doctrine and Covenants, which was the prayer given at the dedication of the Kirtland Temple, and felt the spirit as I read those inspired words.
