I’ve been thinking about what I would say in my director’s note for weeks now, and the one thing that keeps coming to my mind is how incredibly thankful I am to be a part of the arts community in Northeast Arkansas, and the people I have the privilege of surrounding myself around each day. It’s no secret that 2020 brought along more than its share of surprises and hardships. The pandemic has impacted so many industries, and one of the industries that have been hit the hardest is the theatre industry. In the past year, I have had friends all across the country lose their jobs, and have seen shows that had been previously planned for months get postponed. I know of theaters that have had to close their doors due to financial strain, and former artists and technicians who have had to change their careers completely. If you’ve ever participated in theatre; whether as a patron, on a volunteer basis or even professionally, you are probably already aware that people support theatre because of their heart for the arts. Theatre brings people together, and provides a place for anyone to belong. My friends who lost their jobs due to the pandemic lost more than a position. They lost their community of people. I say all this to say, that I am so thankful for people like you who continue to support your local community of artists. Ticket sales are of course important, but the mission you’re supporting is far bigger than any dollar amount. You’re helping to give people a safe and encouraging place to be themselves; a place to learn and grow, and a team to be a part of. The people you see on stage, and the ones who work so hard behind the scenes, are people who I consider family and mean the world to me. I’m so thankful for this special group of talented artists who have trusted me as their leader for this production, the FOA staff, donors, and patrons like you who help us to continue doing what we love. Your support is so important and appreciated more than you know. Enjoy the show! Sincerely, Annie Clark-Roberts A Heart for the Arts Dear FOA Family, Friends, and Patrons, Whether you enjoy theatre as a patron or a performer, this art – when done well - is brimming with life lessons. After 28 years working and playing in the theatre of all types including educational, professional, and community, I’ve realized some principles that, if followed, contribute to theatre-done-well, a term that refers to an excellent way to practice this art form. 10 Principles of Theatre and Life. Principle #1: The Director must be allowed to Direct. Principle #2 The Story is the Star. Principle #3 Know Your Role, Play it, and Don’t Ask Anyone to Play a Role that they Haven’t Been Assigned. Principle # 4 Identify Your Truth and Act on It. Principle #5 Timing is (Almost) Everything. Principle #6 Know When to Move into the Light. Principle #7 Flexibility is Key When Things Go Awry. Principle #8 Respect the Process. Principle #9 Upstaging Loses Trust. Principle #10 Mistakes Make for Greatness. requires many valuable roles to be played in order to tell the story in an excellent way. More than 50 people are playing roles that are necessary and enriching to this experience. Thank you for supporting them and helping the FOA provide this beautiful program. I truly hope your load is lightened by it, and if you are a giver, consider helping the FOA by supporting the mission of this great place. With a Heart for the Arts,

Thank you to our Donors
