Ahern Likely to Retain Pimpernel Ride... Trainer John Dunlop yesterday suggested that Eddie Ahern will be back on board Elusive Pimpernel (Elusive Quality) in the May 1 G1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. On board for each of the three juvenile starts of Windflower Overseas Holdings's colt, Ahern was serv- ing a suspension as the homebred registered a four- length success in Thursday's G3 Craven S. under Ryan Moore. "Hopefully, Eddie will be back in the plate next time," Dunlop commented. "We were delighted with the horse. There would be a question about the strength of the opposition, I suppose, but he couldn't do more than he did."

INGLIS EASTER BROODMARE SALE April 13-16

INGLIS BROODMARE SALE IMPRESSES Across-the-board demand for young mares with appe- tizing looks and race records to match ensured that the four-day Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale finished on a positive note Friday with an 80-percent clearance rate and average of A$69,174--a marked improvement on last year=s A$58,649 and 74.8-percent clearance. Al- though the average in the fourth and final select ses- sion Friday dropped dramatically, with 70 sold at an average of A21,257, the sale was relatively buoyant throughout, finishing on a gross of A$30,501,800. Inglis bloodstock director Jonathan D=Arcy said the sale company had expected a higher overall gross this year. AWe are pretty happy with this result; we thought the gross Jonathan D’Arcy would be higher, but the rise in inglis.com.au average was very pleasant, and 80-percent clearance is very rare at a broodmare sale anywhere in the world, so that was very good,@ he said. AThe strength of the market in those stakes-winning fillies off the track was phenome- nal. Young mares off the track were very popular and this is the best place to sell breeding stock, straight after the yearling sale when everyone is here in town, all the buying people not only from New South Wales, but from interstate and New Zealand as well--a really good mixing pot of buyers fuels the market.@ Easter Brodmare Sale cont. p9 www.thetdn.com P TDN HEADLINE NEWS • 4/17/10 • PAGE 9 of 9 • thoroughbreddailynews.com
