Introduction

Solbox’s Solbox HLS Gateway for Android(Solbox HLS) is an innovative solution to enable the Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming in a variety of Android devices like smart phones and tablet PCs. With Solbox HLS, the Android users can enjoy, without limitation, the contents created with the Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming Protocol that has not been supported in Android 2.3 or lower versions. Solbox HLS ensures that Android devices can receive the same high definition and high quality streaming services as iOS devices by minimizing packet loss during protocol conversion and firewall blocking caused in the RTSP streaming environment.

Components

Solbox HLS provides Solbox HLS Library mainly and Solbox HLS Player as an example of an application made by Solbox HLS Library. • Solbox HLS Library is the core component of Solbox HLS which is provided to the customers as library without user interface (UI). The customers can develop their own applications by using the Solbox HLS Library. • The customers can develop an UI-based application using the Solbox HLS Library and support the Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming in Web environment interconnected with the Internet browser of Android.

Solbox launched technology for Apple's HTTP Live Streaming in Android

Android devices can receive the same high definition and high quality streaming services as iOS devices through ‘Solbox HLS’ to support Apple's HTTP live streaming in Android environment

Seoul, Korea – July, 2012

Solbox (www.solbox.com), a CDN and cloud specialist, announced that it has developed ‘Solbox HLS (SB HTTP Live Streaming)’ for enabling the Apple's HTTP Live Streaming in Android environment.

‘Solbox HLS’ allows Android device users to enjoy, without limitations, the contents created with the HTTP Live Streaming Protocol which has not been supported in Android 2.3 or lower versions until now.

Android 3.0 or higher versions support HTTP Live Streaming, but Android 2.3 or lower versions which account for about 90% of all Android devices around the world only support the RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol). As the HTTP protocol based streaming is becoming the norm recently, HTTP Live Streaming services are increasing. As a result, most users of Android devices that only support RTSP are experiencing such problems as broken streaming and low image quality.

To solve this problem, Solbox prevented firewall blocking and minimized packet loss in case of protocol conversion. Also Solbox minimized compatibility issues between different devices by interworking with the Media Framework that is included in Android by default. Furthermore, Solbox ensured stable streaming environment even in low-specification devices by lowering CPU usage through optimized hardware decoding support so that Android devices can receive the same high definition and high quality streaming services as iOS devices.

Since early this year, Solbox has been supplying ‘Solbox HLS’ to the mobile services 'pooq' and ‘Sonbadak TV’ of MBC, a leading Korean

broadcasting network, thus supporting stable live and VOD streaming services for Android users as well.

(ex. http://live.Solbox.com/...) • The App above means the application you will develop with Solbox HLS Library. • If you need additional technical support beyond our scope with Solbox HLS Library, there might be extra charge. • Note: A seperate contract will be made in case of sites like portals that has over 10 millions subscribers.

Contract Process

1. We provide you the business proposal including the Solbox HLS introduction and price table. 2. You inform us of the service plan including number of application, site, and channels. 3. We recommend you the desirable package among the price table and send a quotation chart to you. 4. After purchase decision, we sign the contract and send the invoice. 5. In two weeks within issuing the invoice, you pay by the telegraphic transfer. 6. We can provide you with an installation guide, binary for the library, license key and sample player’s source registered in the google site.

For your test, we’ll provide you the following test package; • Solbox HLS Library for test • License key for test • Installation Guide

This package will enable you run just 10-minute streaming service. You should agree that Solbox trace the usage record with Solbox HLS Library test version.

Restrictions

• Solbox HLS Library supports Live and VOD streaming that are complied with HTTP Live streaming draft-pantos-http-live- streaming-08. • It supports only static change, not dynamic change, in multiple bit rates at the starting point. • Only AAC should be used as audio codec. • As you know, there are lots of Android OS versions and Android devices in the world. Solbox HLS Library shall support most of the Android devices, but some devices outside Korea may not be supported. This agreement is assumed that you shall complete testing your possible devices in your region and you agree to support the exceptional devices beyond our scope for yourselves.
