CONSULTATION CHANGES

A Rural Settlements and Villages 2015 Topic Paper was subject to public consultation in November 2015, separately in January 2017 Sustainable Access Profiles were made available for public consultation. A range of comments were received on the type of key services & facilities included. Comments on key services & facilities considered accessible from individual settlements were also received. Key changes made to the range of key services and facilities include:

CONSULTATION COMMENTS AND UPDATES Facility Justification Safeguarded Consultation comments on the 2015 Topic Paper found it necessary to give Employment Areas greater consideration to access to employment. Consequently safeguarded employment areas (CS12 of Core Strategy) have been included. Hambrook has three safeguarded employment areas within 2km walking and cycling distance that can be accessed along suitable and safe routes these are shown on the Employment in this Profile and listed in Appendix 1, Employment – Comments on the 2017 Sustainable Access Profiles and methodology Cycling Access considered that the distance for cycling access should be extended. The council considered that longer distance cycling was appropriate for commuting, provided safe and suitable cycle routes existed, and did not rely on utilising A or B roads, particularly in industrial areas or in rural countryside where HGV and other traffic travels at the national speed limit. Analysis of suitable cycle routes and employment opportunities within 5.6km of the settlement, shows that Hambrook is connected to off road cycle routes running alongside the A4174, which connects both east and west of the settlement. This allows longer distance cycling (upto 5.6km) to a number of major employers and large employment areas, including Emersons Green Science Park and University of West of England. These additional facilities are now included in the count of facilities between 2km – 5.6km. Please see the appendix for more details. Comparison Stores Comments on the 2015 Topic Paper stressed the need to update checks of services and facilities present in each village. Two comparison retail shops have been recorded for 2016 and are listed in the appendix to this profile. Mobile Libraries As a result of consultation comments on the 2015 Topic Paper, relating to the lack of frequency, limited availability in many areas mobile libraries have been removed from the list of key services and facilities.

Post Office In 2015 a Post Office was located at a local convenience store (Yoahmac Store), however the Post Office has since closed. The convenience store is still open.

Primary School & Consultation comments on the 2015 Topic Paper stressed the need to Secondary consider route quality and usability to key services and facilities, in addition Schools– Walking, to the distance, particularly for education facilities. cycling route quality St Mary’s RC VA Primary School, Baileys Court Primary School and Little and usability Stoke Primary School lie within the 2 mile primary school catchment. However is not considered accessible due to poor crossing facilities on the B4507 and no dedicated walking and cycling routes exist along the Old Gloucester Road, between Hambrook and the schools. The schools are therefore not included as a service and facility accessible by walking or cycling. Community School lies within the 3 mile secondary school catchment. However no safe route existing to facilitate walking or cycling to the school from Hambrook. The school is therefore not included as a service and facility accessible by walking or cycling. 6
