Gerard’s landscape and architectural works takes one on a stunning and insightful journey through some of the most spectacular vistas from Ireland and his world travels. His frequent plays on perspective are one of the most exciting aspects of his compositions. Gerard is particularly renowned for his botanical works and has exhibited in Berlin, London and New York. Last year one of his main events was an exhibition in Ireland's National Botanical Gardens where his work received much adulation. Displayed across the 3 major gateways of the Singapore Botanic Gardens are a collection of paintings of Ireland’s National Botanical Gardens, Royal Botanic Gardens KEW (UK) and the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The latest of which were made in 2019, during an artist in residency in August. Over the years, this biennial Award has discovered and celebrated the creative endeavours of many young and aspiring local artists. With cash prizes totaling $25,000, participants of this site-specific sculpture competition also vie for the opportunity to have his or her work commissioned and installed for public display at the designated sculpture site for each Award. In conjunction with City Developments Limited (CDL)’s 50th Anniversary and 50 Years of Greening Singapore this year, participants were invited to create works around the theme, “Celebrate!” which pays homage to Singapore’s reputation as a City in a Garden, marked by decades of planning and cultivation. The designated sculpture site for this year’s Award is within a recreational area at East Coast Park that is slated for redevelopment. If suitable, the winning work will be commissioned for installation within Singapore’s most popular park. The two plans were put to public consultation from 23 July 2002 to 22 October 2002. More than 35,000 visited the exhibition, and feedback was received from about 3,600 individuals. Appointment of Subject Groups 1.2 3 Subject Groups (SGs) were appointed by Minister of National Development, Mr Mah Bow Tan as part of the public consultation exercise to study proposals under the following areas: a. Subject Group 1: Parks and Waterbodies Plan and the Rustic Coast b. Subject Group 2: Urban Villages and Southern Ridges & Hillside Villages c. Subject Group 3: Old World Charm 1.3 The SG members, comprising professionals, representatives from interest groups and lay people were tasked to study the various proposals for the 2 plans, conduct dialogue sessions with stakeholders and consider public feedback, before making their recommendations to URA on the proposals.     Circular No: URA/PB/2019/18-CUDG URBAN DESIGN GUIDELINES FOR DEVELOPMENTS WITHIN BRAS BASAH BUGIS PLANNING AREA The Bras Basah.Bugis (BBB) district comprises part of the Rochor and Museum Planning Areas and is strategically located close to the premier Orchard Road shopping belt and the Civic District. Envisioned to be a lively, arts, learning and heritage enclave, BBB is home to many of Singapore’s arts and cultural facilities, including the Singapore Art Museum, Waterloo Street Arts Belt, LaSalle College of the Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and School of the Arts (SOTA). This set of guidelines aims to facilitate innovative designs for BBB, as well as guide the physical development of the area to ensure that individual buildings contribute to, and strengthen the planning vision for the area, while retaining BBB’s eclectic character. Innovative designs that do not fully conform to the guidelines or standard building typologies can be considered, subject to URA’s evaluation of the detailed proposal.     Two More Therapeutic Gardens Open to Improve Mental Well-Being With Singapore’s ageing population, the number of dementia-at-risk seniors and persons with dementia is expected to increase. The National Parks Board (NParks) has developed therapeutic gardens in public parks that are not only designed with elderly-friendly features, but also alleviate the onset of dementia through therapeutic horticulture. Seniors enjoying Therapeutic Garden @ Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park On 19 September, NParks opened two new therapeutic gardens in Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and Tiong Bahru Park. Minister for Health Mr Gan Kim Yong, who was the guest-of-honour, officiated the opening of the two new therapeutic gardens at an event in Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, together with Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development. Mr Kenneth Er, CEO of NParks, introducing Therapeutic Garden @ Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park to Minister Gan Kim Yong and Minister Desmond Lee Minister Gan Kim Yong and Minister Desmond Lee touring Therapeutic Garden @ Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park Woh Hup (Private) Limited, one of Singapore’s largest private construction groups, donated $500,000 through the Garden City Fund for the development of the Therapeutic Garden @ Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and its programmes. NParks will continue to partner with the community to develop a network of therapeutic gardens in parks across Singapore. This includes an upcoming garden in Choa Chu Kang Park which will be completed in 2018.
