Worker Bees Produce New Book THE GOLDEN YEARS By Bobby Burrell

There is quite a buzz over a new book in the “The Bee Hive hockey picture promotion ran for a vintage collectibles hobby that will see its premier span of 35 years and in terms of longevity, it was at the Sport Card Expo & Memorabilia Expo this spring. undeniably the most successful consumer promotion in Canadian history. The simple truth is, as passionate Bee Hive collectors, we wrote this book more for ourselves than for anyone else. We simply wanted to piece together everything that we’ve learned about the Bee Hive picture promotion and to share it with like-minded collectors.”

Don Pillar: “Growing up in suburban Toronto, I collected virtually everything—pop bottle caps, stamps, coins, comic books, chewing gum cards, CHUM charts, matchbook covers, hockey coins, etc… Like many of my childhood pals, I also collected Bee Hive pictures. Being a devout Leafs fan, my collection was limited to pictures of the Toronto Maple Leafs. 9. 1988-89 Esso NHL All-Star Collection: Bobby Orr Bobby Orr was the greatest defenseman of all-time, and one of the most exciting players to watch. His 1988-89 Esso NHL All-Stars card is exciting, too, because only six cards of Orr were issued between his retirement in 1978 and the hockey card boom of 1990-91. After that, it became a normal practice to issue cards of retired greats, but back in 1988-89, it was a novel concept. 6. 1988-89 ProCards AHL/IHL: Mark Recchi Mark Recchi scored 1533 points in 1652 regular- season games, won the Stanley Cup during three different decades (1991, 2006, 2011) and is the oldest player to score a goal in the Stanley Cup Finals. As remarkable as his career was, Recchi’s “pre-RC” in the 1988-89 ProCards AHL/IHL set is tame by comparison. However, this card does pre-date Recchi’s rookie cards by a full two years.
