7.0 Conclusion PART 7 CONCLUSION | 221 Canary in the coalmine…

Due to the impending incursion of Varroa mites into Australia and the inevitable decline of bee populatons as a result, and with our growing concerns round climate change, food security and protectng the environment, the tme is ripe for a uniquely Australian concept such as The Tocal Apiary to address such issues.

The potential of architecture..

The project however is not absolute, but rather should show the potental of architecture to be adaptve and respond to its environment. Like nature itself, The Tocal Apiary should be organic, growing and developing over tme, answering and responding to the needs of the client, project and wider community.

222 | PART 7 CONCLUSION Everything has its season ...

Tocal College, the site of my very frst feld excursion on day 1 of my degree...

Life is cyclical and as the lyrics of the song ‘Corner of the Sky’ say, ‘everything has its season, everything has its tme’… and so it is ftng that I fnd myself back to where I started when I frst envisaged this project.

The project has been a challenge and extended me in ways I would never have expected when I started. What a journey...

So as the year comes to a close, I would like to thank all my tutors and visitng lecturers for their guidence, wisdom, encouragement and generosity over the years. Without them this journey would not have been possible.

It is with a tnge of relief and great exictment that I submit my fnal Design Report in completon of my Masters in Design (Architecture), for the University of Newcastle, ready to commence my professional career.

As the chorus contnes: ‘Rivers belong where they can ramble; Eagles belong where they can fy. I’ve got to be where my spirit can run free, Got to fnd my corner of the sky.’
