Varietal

100% : the famous grape used in all great red wines from the south of Burgundy especially those from the Beaujolais region, just south of Mâcon. The name actually comes from a small village further north in Burgundy.

Origins Every year, the world excitedly anticipates the third Thursday of November to taste the new fresh and fruity Beaujolais.

The Beaujolais begins in the north of the Rhône département and stretches up to a southern section of the Saône et Loire département. It covers the hillsides between the River Saône in the East and the Monts du Beaujolais in the West. The main production area is located around the Villefranche sur Saône area, on a clay-chalky plateau and extends northwards over granite and schist.

Vinification is the first of the new . It is yet made according to the traditional Beaujolais method.

The whole bunches of grapes are put to macerate in temperature controlled vats for a short period of time (5 to 7 days) in order to extract as much fruit as possible and get a wine with the right balance of color, aromas and tannins in the selected cuvees.

Tasting notes Colour: Bright ruby-red. Nose: Intense aromas combining fresh black fruit. Palate: Very intense mouth with a perfect balance between red fruit, refreshing and softness. A well balanced wine !

Food and wine pairing A pleasant wine to accompany starters, cold meats, delicatessen, French charcuterie, poultry, goat and ripe cheese.

Serving suggestions This wine should be served at cellar temperature of about 13 to 14°C. (53 to 57°F) to better appreciate its fresh and very fruity style.

Ageing potential Beaujolais Nouveau can be consumed starting the third Thursday of November following the vintage . It is a fresh and lively wine in its youth, and gain in smoothness after about two years.

Vintage 2020 The weather was particularly favourable at the end of August, with temperatures that were more bearable than at the beginning. The grapes were in good health, but as expected, the volumes harvested varied greatly depending on the area. We estimate that yields were 25 hl/ha in the most heat-sensitive zones, 35-40 hl/ha for others and 55-58 hl/ha for the most preferential zones.

Some of the grapes were destemmed and left for at length in order to extract and highlight all the vintage’s elegance. Nethertheless, a traditional of the whole bunches of grapes was also conducted to extract all the Gamay’s aromatic finesse while some warm pre-fermentation maceration enabled to extract a maximum of colour from the grapes that had most suffered from the dryness.

From the very first tastings, the palette of flavours was vast with predominant raspberry liqueur, ripe cherries in syrup and the unctuousness of wild blueberry cordial along with scents of violet, iris and peony, roasted coffee and dark chocolate… The musts showed variable sugar concentration (12° to 15°!) with nice mouthfeel in spite of rather high acidity and the juices offered fantastic gorgeous, intense colours. c @crash.record
