Fort Wayne mayor says he has mild case of COVID-19 FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Fort Wayne’s mayor has tested positive for a COVID-19 infection but said Tuesday that he was experiencing only mild symptoms. Mayor Tom Henry’s office said he would be isolated for several days and remain in communication from home with other officials in Indiana’s second-largest city. “I am very grateful to have been vaccinated, as my symp- toms are mild,” the 69-year-old Henry posted to his social media accounts. “I am now resting at home.” Henry received the first of his COVID-19 vaccination shots in February, once his age group became eligible for the jabs. That’s the situation I found myself in about two weeks ago as I waited and waited for court records to be posted online. A Bluffton man was charged with a crime in another county, and an image Jessica of his arresting information was shared around the community. But that infor- Bricker mation disappeared once he was no longer an inmate in that county’s jail, and the court filing was not immediately shared through MyCase, the website that allows participating Indiana counties to share court case information with the public. For days, it was like the case never existed. I refreshed the MyCase page time after time but without success. I didn’t want to publish a story based on the slim arresting information; it lacked context. I needed the full story. I owe that to the subjects I write about and the community who reads these stories. I would argue there are a couple of factors at play that exacerbated this situation: First, it was a state agen- cy handling an arrest in another county. Out-of-county arrests are hard to track down because oftentimes we don’t know which agency to call. And when we do get in touch with someone, they don’t Despite time, talent, and treasure, know us.
