Wednesday 11th December 2019 www.socappeal.com The 42nd Presentation of The Story of Christmas on Wednesday 11th December (6.15pm – 11pm) at St George’s Hanover Square Mayfair

Founded in 1978, The Story of Christmas is the property and construction industries’ charity Christmas event. Each December it begins at St George’s Hanover Square Mayfair with a spectacular ceremony of Nine Lessons and Carols featuring a whole host of celebrated readers. Festive music is performed each year by a leading military band and well-known English choir.

Following this, there is a glittering champagne reception and charity auction. As a result of generous sponsorship, guests are treated to sumptuous, award-winning catering throughout the evening, at The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel, together with champagne by LVMH, The Story of Christmas’s champagne sponsor. A live and silent auction take place featuring a magnificent array of rare prizes.

The event raises funds – donated chiefly by companies and individuals from the property and construction industries – to finance capital projects benefitting either the homeless or disadvantaged children in the area. How to support The Story of Christmas 2019 Tickets

Barons Court Project: Second shower and refurbishment

Barons Court Project is the only drop-in centre for rough sleepers in and Fulham. After meeting basic human needs through provision of meals, shower and laundry, the project works one-to-one with clients to help them off the streets and into employment. Due to client numbers increasing the project requires a second shower and some refurbishment which The Story of Christmas is funding – to ensure the centre remains homely for those who don’t have a home.

BeyondAutism

BeyondAutism is a charity dedicated to empowering people with autism to lead fuller lives, by providing positive learning experiences, training for the people who work with them and support for their families and carers. The Story of Christmas is buying a 17-seater wheelchair-accessible minibus to ensure that the children and young adults are given every opportunity to access new experiences and new environments. The charity is fortunate enough to work with extraordinary children and young adults and understands that extracurricular trips have a profound impact on their learning and, indeed, their lives. The minibus will be a critical tool in contributing towards the children’s health and wellbeing, the improvement of motor skills, inspiring an affinity with the outdoors, and the development of independence skills. It will also encourage a culture of learning that is not solely restricted to the classroom environment.

Cherry Trees: Extension and renovation of Bathroom

Cherry Trees has for 39 years provided ‘home from home’ short break/respite care for children and young people with severe learning, physical and sensory disabilities. As part of the charity’s ongoing maintenance of a well-used home, The Story of Christmas will be contributing towards the cost of a new sensory bath and shower room together with some wheelchair accessible washrooms.
