Brief Industrial Profile of

1. General Characteristics of the District Kondagaon is new district formed on 1st January 2012.. It is said that the old name of Kondagaon was Kondanar. Kondagaon is known as the Shilp City of .This district is the manufacturing centre of Handicrafts that are sold throughout globe under the name of “Bastar Handicrafts”.

1.1 Location & Geographical Area.

Kondagaon is located at 19.6 degree North and 81.67 degree East. It has an average elevation of 593 metres (1946 feet above Mean Sea Level). Total Area of Kondagaon district is 7768-907 Sq. KMs. Kondagaon district is surrounded by Kanker and Dhamtari districts to its north, Narayanpur to its west, Bastar to its south and Odisha state to its east

1.2 Topography

Kondagaon has rich forest, water and mineral resources.The average rainfall in the district is

1205-65 Mm. Kondagaon is famous for timber mills.
