Dear readers, Welcome to the summer issue of Hamaink. In this issue you will find coverage of the diverse range of events and activities that our community organisations and individuals have been involved with in the recent months. This April, our community commemorated the 93rd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide through activities, commemorative events and reflections that touched hearts and minds. We thank all those who volunteered their time and energy to organise the events and all those who took part and made them memorable. The last several months were also filled with a good array of cultural and musical events. Book launches, concerts and lectures continued to add a sense of invigoration and spark to our daily lives and routines. In a few weeks time, there will be a range of events put together by various community organisations to celebrate ’s Independence Day on September 21st and we hope to see many of you soon. We also hope you enjoy reading the issue and we encourage you to send us your feedback and draw our attention to any interesting community initiatives and undertakings that you would like to see covered in your community newsletter. Kashatagh (latchin), the liberated region between Armenia and Artsakh remains the most vital, strategic lifeline guaranteeing Artsakh’s security. But, in recent years it has suffered some unfortunate setbacks including economic stagnation and rising emigration, which have intensified the region’s vulnerability.

As part of the renewed effort by the NKR Government, Tufenkian Foundation has been asked to lead for the coordination of financial commitments by donor organisations toward Kashatagh’s revitalisation. Kashatagh’s revitalisation program includes a variety of projects which can range from sponsoring higher education for a child of a fallen or disabled soldier to building new homes. For more information about the works and www.Tufenkianfoundation.com. programs, see

The Tufenkian Foundation is appealing to the Armenian community in Britain for fundraising. The contribution would offer much to the resettlement and revitalisation programs of Kashatagh.

MAY 28TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS On May 31st, the 90th anniversary celebration of the first Armenian Republic took place at the Navasartian Centre in Northfields. 120 people gathered to commemorate May 28th - Armenian Independence Day with opening words from Mr Hratche Boghosian. The dinner and dance was accompanied with great enthusiasm with live music from George Baghdoian. The Guest speaker, his Excellency Dr.Vahe Gabrielyan spoke of the lasting memory of the heroes who bravely fought for Armenian Independence. It is certain that without the foundation of the first Armenian Republic in 1918, the Independence of Armenia in 1991 would not have been made possible. As Armenians we owe a debt of gratitude to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for Armenian liberation, which we continue to enjoy today.
