Additional text: "This ceremony took place in the Presence Room. The officers who were knighted knelt on a small cushion, with gold fringe before the Queen and the Indian Officers did the same. As the Queen put on the decoration, the Duke of Connaught came forward and assisted to fasten it behind the soldiers' necks. This is what is represented here - the Duke advancing to do this. Col. Pennington (or Pennythorn) read out the names of each of the Indian officers as they came forward. This was at the end, after the G.C.B.s and C.B.s had been invested. On the left of the Queen stand the Duke of Connaught, Princess Helena, Duchess of Connaught. Lord Strathnairn held the sword for the Queen and handed it to her while she knighted the Pencil and grey wash, 271 x 282 mm. general offices.
