SiMBA The Co-operative’s staff have chosen the charity SiMBA to support and raise funds over the course of the year. Details of the fundraising activities will be published in our newsletters, Facebook and Twitter.

SiMBA supports families who have suffered the loss of a baby. They provide support in the following ways:

• Memory Boxes – encouraging parents to hold and cuddle their newborn and create memories with the little items in the box. A memory box is often described as a parent’s most treasured possession.

• Trees of Tranquility - stunning hand crafted, life sized sculptures. The trees are adorned with individual leaves, which represent a baby and can be engraved with a personal message.

• Family Rooms - The aim of providing Family Rooms within maternity units is to offer parents the opportunity to spend further precious time with and prepare to say goodbye to their baby in peaceful and private accommodation.

• Hospital Services – Memory Boxes are donated to maternity units from the charity so they can be gifted to parents. We look at other projects that would complement the current hospital services, this can range from getting a new camera and printer in the unit to planning a whole new Family Room.

• Palliative and Bereavement Training – SiMBA works closely with CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across ) and other charities to organise Palliative and Bereavement training to support midwives, neonatal nurses, hospital staff and students; giving them greater confidence when Memory Making and supporting families in their care. Together SiMBA and CHAS offer a series of fully funded one day training days which are FREE for delegates to attend.

• Support Groups - Our groups are open to anyone who has gone through the death of a baby at any stage of pregnancy or close to the time of birth.

So watch out for upcoming activities where we’d love you to join us in raising funds for such a heartfelt charity!

Garden Maintenance As we enter the warmer months our estate caretakers are beginning the task of cutting grass in the area, and maintaining some of the common areas.

The maintenance of individual gardens is the responsibility of each tenant, as is stated in your tenancy agreement. If you cannot maintain your garden due to your age or because of suffering from poor health the Co-operative operates a garden maintenance list to assist any eligible tenant.

To be added to this list you must be over 65 years of age and/or have a medical condition that prevents you from cutting the grass and have no one resident in the household who can cut the grass.

The upkeep of gardens really helps the appearance of the area, and the enjoyment of local residents in their homes. Please remember that each tenant must play their part and take responsibility for their garden. Staff from the Co-operative will carry out regular walkabouts of the area and any tenant not maintaining their garden may have further action taken against them for breaching their tenancy agreement, including having the cost of a grass cut recharged to them.

Please ensure to keep your garden maintained and litter free this year and help keep our area tidy! 8 GlenburnNews

Rent Increase for 2018/19

Tenants of Easthall Park Housing Co-operative own and control the organisation; we depend on your rent payments to manage the housing stock and deliver the services necessary to maintain and improve your home and the local environment. The rental income that we receive is re-invested into our community to help achieve our purpose of “making a difference to our community”. Our Management Committee considered three options and tenants gave us their views:

Option 1: 3.2% - 50% of tenants selected this option Option 2: 3.5% - 30% of tenants selected this option Option 3: 4% – 15% of tenants selected this option We had our best ever response from tenants giving us their opinion with the majority of respondents using our Text Survey. Almost 18% of tenants gave us their opinion with one lucky tenant winning the prize for taking part of £50 Morrison’s vouchers. You will know by now that that we agreed to the increase of 3.2% which takes effect from 28 March 2018. We would like to give tenants the opportunity to have their views heard on other services, policies and procedures, please let us know if you are interested in taking part in any Resident Panel meetings or Text Surveys.

Easthall Residents Association News GLENBURN CENTRE

EASTHALL MUGA Pitch (aka ‘The Fivey’) Upgraded RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION At long last, after a few years of battling, our MUGA pitch, more dearly known as 'The Fivey' by many within Easthall, has been upgraded.

A huge thank you must go to local Cllr Elaine Ballantyne for her efforts in taking the fight up with Land & Environmental Services at Glasgow City Council. In January the old surface which was badly damaged mainly down to vandalism was completely replaced.

Now, thanks to the surface being replaced we are hoping that all that use this popular pitch will get lots of years of fun and enjoyment out of it.

Thank You Bowling Club

In early February, Easthall Residents Association put out a request on our Facebook page looking for an Indoor Bowling Carpet. The Association always had indoor bowls however the carpet had gone missing a few years ago.

Many of our My Life My Choice ASN service users had been asking if we could try and get an Indoor Bowls Carpet as they were really interested and would enjoy playing. Now, thanks to Clydebank Bowling Club, our request was answered. After seeing our Facebook post the President got in touch and made an incredible offer of their old carpet, which they had just recently replaced, completely FREE.

Already our groups are enjoying playing Indoor Carpet Bowls. We are now looking as part of our Wednesday My Life My Choice activities to have Bowling’s Gold Medalist from the recent Special Olympics held in Sheffield, Stephen Anderson, teach some of the guys. Who knows, maybe we could have our very own indoor team.

Thanks again Clydebank Bowling Club from everyone at The Glenburn Centre your donation is greatly appreciated!!! 12 GlenburnNews
