Conex Bänninger: Focus on ACR solutions >B< MaxiPro & K65 system at AHR Expo

Developed specifically for air conditioning and refrigeration applications (ACR), the flame-free press-fit solution has proved popular with ACR mechanicals, who appreciate the ease of installation and time-saving benefits it offers when compared to traditional brazing. KWD-globalpipe, 25.01.2019. As a mechanically strong joint, the risk of fire is eliminated and there is no need for a fire watch. >B< MaxiPro can be used in confined spaces, meaning office workers and the public can access a build- ing while an installation is underway.

>B< MaxiPro can be used up to a maximum operating pressure of 700 psi at 250°F, with a permanent maximum operating temperature range of -40°F to 284°F.

“>B< MaxiPro generated a huge amount of interest when we unveiled it at AHR Expo 2017. Since then use by specifiers, contractors and ACR engineers has been strong and is continuing to grow. This will be our fifth time at the show and we expect it to be our busiest,” Larry Johnson, Business Unit Director, North America, for Con- (Photo: www.conexbanninger.com) ex Bänninger, said.

The already established K65 brazing range is one another ACR solution, which Conex Bänninger show- cased at the exhibition.

The Wieland-K65 tubes and the range of K65 brazing fittings from Conex Bänninger (IBP Group) are ideal for use in high pressure pipe systems up to 1,740 psi, par- ticularly where CO2 is the refrigerant. POLOPLAST America offers better piping alternative as steel prices rise

With steel prices on the rise, a leading global piping innovator now offers North American builders a strong and versatile alternative: durable, hygienic polypropylene. POLOPLAST’s North American sales and training teams has introduced their advanced products and demonstrated their incredible strength, ease of use, and versatility. KWD-globalpipe, 25.01.2019. In 2018, the U.S. federal govern- ment imposed a 25% tariff on foreign steel as well as other metals and materials. U.S. producers quickly raised their prices to match, breaking the building- materials budgets for commercial construction and investment across the country. The tariffs exacer- bated the already-unstable global pricing for steel, and with no end to the tariffs in sight, many indus- try experts expect steel prices to continue rising in 2019. Now, POLOPLAST America offers a new, cutting-edge solution to the problem.

The company’s German-made PP-R/PP-RCT pipes and fittings are industry-standard products in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East thanks to their supreme hygiene, insulation, and ease of installation. More important ly, they provide superior strength and durability to steel pipes without being subject to tariffs or unpredictable price fluctuations.

“POLOPLAST America is entering the North American market- place at just the right time, because in order to properly budget for large-scale projects, engineers, contractors, and building owners need to reliably predict the price of materials years into the future,” says POLOPLAST America CEO Diego Grüebler. “Our PP-R prod- ucts offer a much more predictable total installed cost than steel piping, and the advantages don’t end there.”

POLOPLAST America’s PP-R/PP-RCT piping systems offer a superior alternative to steel pipes for large-diameter applications in many ways. They are approximately 70% lighter than steel pipes and do not require any welding or open flames. PP-R pipes do not scale, corrode or release any volatile organic compounds, making them far more hygienic than steel. POLOPLAST America’s products also have a much longer lifespan than carbon steel, more than 60 years of virtually leak-free usage. At the end of their lifespan, the PP-R piping systems are fully recyclable. (Photos: POLOPLAST)

“We’re so confident in the durability of our products that we offer a 10-year warranty on every system we sell,” says Mr. Grüebler. “How many steel piping providers can offer the same?” Contact: POLOPLAST America, Inc., USA, www.poloplast.us [email protected]

REHAU radiant systems with dedicated outdoor air systems lead to net-zero

Building owners and facility managers are looking for solutions that bring their commercial buildings closer to net-zero. REHAU is encouraging engineers and contractors to take a closer look at hybrid radiant-DOAS systems for upcoming projects. KWD-globalpipe, 25.01.2019. REHAU hydronic radiant heating and cooling systems when combined with a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) can reduce HVAC energy consumption while increasing thermal comfort and air quality in commercial buildings. “The thermal comfort of radiant heating and cooling is widely recognized, and its ability to contribute to a building’s energy efficiency is well- documented,” says Ryan Westlund, senior manager, radiant heating and cooling with the building solutions division at REHAU. “Building airflow is also a major concern for specifiers, and DOAS is capable of achieving much higher indoor air quality than traditional HVAC.”

www.kwd-globalpipe.com page 4

KWD-globalpipe 707 25.01.2019

By skillfully combining these two proven technologies, HVAC system designers can not only optimize building energy efficiency and sustainability, but can also create indoor spaces that are more conducive to occupant health and performance.

“The main hurdle we’re seeing in the market is wide adoption and acceptance by building design teams,” adds Westlund. “Through providing educational resources and on-site support, REHAU is working closely with customers to help them better understand the integration of DOAS with our radiant heating and cooling system.”

REHAU offers a variety of both online and human resources to help customers better integrate radiant with building HVAC systems. This includes design services and software, classroom REHAU radiant heating/cooling con- and online training through the REHAU Academy as well as centrates temperature conditioning on the occupant level in this expansive jobsite support and consultation. commercial facility (©REHAU) Contact: Rehau Inc., USA, www.rehau.com

Wavin plastic pipes for adapting a ventilation system to be installed underground

Wavin was contacted by Skorve Entreprenør AS to deliver Wavin DN1800 pipes as ventilation pipes installed underground for a new school in Kongsberg – One of the greatest benefits of using plastic pipes for such an application is longevity / Plastic pipes can be used for so many things KWD-globalpipe, 25.01.2019. In fact, an underground ventilation system (UVS) actually optimizes the use of space and eliminates the need for indoor ducts by placing the ventilation system in the ground. It’s an ideal application for schools, hospitals, factories and commercial buildings.

The concept of an underground ventilation system became a reality: First the drawings and calculations were approved by the contractor and consultants. With this customized UVS, both the intake and exhaust are taken into the building via a “manifold pipe” where 5 Wavin DN1000s connect the outside trenched DN1800 The magestic Wavin DN1800 pipe en route to the site (Photo: Wavin) pipe with the technical room inside.

The photos give an impression of the first day of installation (Photos: Wavin)

All parties were delighted that everything fit perfectly and the installation went very smoothly. The Wavin DN1800 pipes are made as long as possible transport-wise – with lengths up to 16,5 meters. They are gigantic. The whole system is welded on site, and this is made easy with the inte- grated electrofusion sockets on the XL pipes – an additional option on Wavin’s standard pipes.

Welding secures the tensile strength and ensures that there are absolutely no air leakages.

Plastic pipes can be used for so many things: There is huge un- tapped potential in these types of projects. Wholesalers tend to not be aware of the usage of plastic pipes for the purpose of installing an underground ventilation system. One of the greatest benefits of using plastic pipes for such an application – in addition to optimizing space – can be summed up in one word: longevity. Wavin DN1800 pipes have demonstrated a longer life span by eliminating weldtear and delamination. In this particular school project, the system was used in a new construction. However, an underground ventilation system may also be used in the renovation of existing buildings. ISO: Better building with new International Standards for BIM

The global construction industry is booming, bringing with it global construction projects and the need for efficient tools such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) for managing information. A new set of International Standards has just been published to enable BIM to flourish across projects and borders, benefitting the industry as a whole. KWD-globalpipe, 25.01.2019. As populations and economies grow, so too does the need for housing and infrastructure, fuelling growth forecasts in the global construction indus- try of up to 85 % – or USD 15.5 trillion – by 2030 (PwC, “Global Construction 2030: A global forecast for the construction industry to 2030”). More construction means a great- er need for efficient ways of working, which is why the 3D model-based approach of BIM in delivering construction projects is gaining traction worldwide.

BIM gives architects, engineers and construction professionals the ability to plan, design and manage building projects more efficiently. It is growing in popularity, creating the need for an interna- tional framework that allows the industry to work together across projects and national borders.

To address this, the first two parts of ISO 19650, Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM) – Infor- mation management using building information modelling, have just been published, providing a framework for managing information through collaborative working using BIM.

They will enable more widespread use of BIM and thus more efficient building and infrastructure projects, Jøns Sjøgren, Chair of the ISO technical subcommittee that developed the standards, said. “ISO 19650 was developed on the basis of the tried-and-tested British standard BS 1192 and publicly available specification PAS 1192-2, which have already been shown to help users save up to 22 % in construction costs,” he said. “Taking this to an international level not only means more effective collaboration on global projects, but allows designers and contractors working on all kinds of building works to have clearer and more efficient information management.”

Future standards in the series include a Part 3 on managing the operational phase of assets and a Part 5 dedicated to security-minded building information modelling, digital built environments and smart asset management.

ISO 19650-1 and ISO 19650-2 were developed by ISO technical committee ISO/TC 59, Buildings and civil engineering works, subcommittee SC 13, Organization and digitization of information about

Frabo, 50 years of story to tell – 2019 will be the date of a very important step

One of the many achievements in 50 years of evolution. Since 1969, they have seen many changes, a continuous growth, where the strong values of the company and of the people, which compose it, have always been present. The land identity, passion, family, team, commitment and, above all, people. KWD-globalpipe, 25.01.2019. Since 1969, they have seen many changes, a continuous growth, where the strong values of the company and of the peo- ple, which compose it, have always been present. The land identity, passion, family, team, commit- ment and, above all, people. These values are a great part of Frabo.

To tell this trip, they chose an image, a mark, which will follow them throughout 2019, to remem- ber, but above all, to celebrate another achievement.

The orange of the number 50 stands for wisdom, equilibrium and ambition, which are values pre- sent in Frabo history since the beginning; the black, in the word “anni”, is a sign of distinction and solidity. These two colours, together, have always identified the company.

Italian identity: the word “anni” is purposely written in Italian. The years “1969-2019” are bordered by the colour of the Italian flag, evidence of Frabo deep connection to the land, where the company was born and continues to produce, by never delocalising, but even reference to “made in ”, of which Frabo is ambassador in every destination country of its products.

The logo closes with the lettering FRABO, which underlines and keeps the company’s identity alive and strong. Contact: FRABO S.p.A., Italy, www.frabo.com
