Lincoln Elementary School

MESSAGE FROM MR. MCCLONE—PRINCIPAL Thank you to all of the families that attended our first APTT November 2015 meetings. We have just over 70% of the families engaged in this new learning process. We did not reach our goal of having 100% attendance, but we had a great start. We have learned a lot from the first round of classroom meetings. We are already pre- paring to make the next round of meetings even better.

Next in the APTT cycle is our individual conferences. Those in- vites will be sent home soon. This will be a 30 minute confer- ence unless you are a family with three or more students who at- tend Lincoln. In that case we have blocked an hour for confer- ences to respect your time. Once again, we are looking for 100% attendance at the individual conferences.

We are still having some issues with cars double parking, drop- ping off on the other side of the street, and cars waiting in the drop off zones causing back-ups and unsafe conditions for our students. The first bump in (by Commercial Street) is designated for car drop off. This is a great option for parents who are just dropping off and then leaving. The students would then just Inside this issue: need to walk to the playground area after being dropped off. Message from the Principal 1 Another option is to drive down Commercial or Spring Street Community News 2 farther and drop off/pick up near the back end of the field area. For your Health 3 It is usually less congested back there. Thank you for helping FYI 4-5 keep our kids safe. PTA 6 Counselor’s Corner 7 Have a great week. COUGH DROPS / THROAT LOZENGES With cold and cough season fast approaching, we are asking parents to refrain from sending cough or throat loz- enges to school. These small, slippery, hard, discs can become a choking hazard for children. For the safety of our students, we ask that these items not be brought to school or kept in the office for student use. Instead, please send your child to school with a water bottle if he/she is experiencing a cough or scratchy throat. Fre- quent sips from a water bottle will keep the throat moist and greatly soothe a scratchy throat and calm a cough. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

As the weather turns colder please be sure to send your student with the appropriate clothing for outdoor recess. We will continue to have all recesses outside unless it is raining or the wind-chill falls below the safe levels. So please be sure your students have coats, gloves, hats, mittens, scarves, boots and snow pants for recesses. If you need assistance getting coats and outside gear for your children please contact Mrs. Bouzek in he office at 832-6270.

Emergency School Cancellation

In the event of bad weather, dangerous road conditions, school emergencies, school closings, delays in starting the school day, or early school dismissals, important information may be announced on local radio and TV stations. AASD uses the radio and TV stations listed to inform families of such schedule changes as quickly as possible. Please avoid calling District or school offices during such emergency situations. This seriously dis- rupts our phone lines and makes it difficult to make vital out-going calls.

Parking, Drop Off and Pick UP

We continue to have many issues with cars double parking, blocking the street, letting students out in the middle of the street or having them cross between double parked cars. Please pull forward to the next available parking place/ opening next to the curb and drop your child at that location, even it is further down the street from the school. It will be much safer for your child to walk an extra distance than to be dropped off in a congested area.

The Appleton Police Department will be providing extra patrols in the area to provide assistance in this matter and will also issue citations as necessary to ensure the safety off all students, families and faculty.

Please note: the Grace Church parking lot should not be used as a drop off and pick up area as this is a private parking lot. The Appleton Police Department will begin issuing citation to anyone using this area for student drop off and pick up.

Thank you for your prompt and immediate assistance with this as we try to cre- ate the safest possible solution for your children.

Please call the Lincoln office if you have and questions or concerns.
