It was a rainy British weather kind of day. 14 Cars showed up and it was a beautiful run. We also talked about our upcoming events and getting Sponsors for our shows Our membership is down from previous years so we discussed how to get more members and get our existing members more involved We also had our flea market that night, it was a very busy night.

Our guest speaker that night was: Ken Saviet of Ken’s Mobile Detailing LLC 973-652-6293 He covered many different topics and answered many questions.

Detailing is important and so is using the right cleaner: Always mask or remove parts to keep the wrong cleaner from on them Wheels Don’t use wheel acid. Use wheel brightener, which you can use for everything except bare aluminum or magnesium. Wax is good for the wheels, use rim wax. Tires Use Bleach white® to clean the tires, both the black part and the white walls. Tops Armor All® is good for vinyl tops, BUT KEEP IT OFF THE PLASTIC WINDOWS! Use Scotchgard® for the canvas tops but again keep it off the plastic windows. The plastic windows should only be cleaned with water and a clean cloth. Glass Use paper towels first to clean up the majority of the dirt, then use microfiber window rags to finalize the cleaning. Be careful not to drop microfiber on the ground as it picks up dirt and is hard to clean. RainX™ is good for light hazing Avoid glass cleaners or any cleaners which contain ammonia Exterior Clean the whole car, start from the top and clean everywhere. Dirt and grit will get in all the crevices. WD40® will remove old sap and tar, you just need patience. A clay bar is an excellent way to clean the exterior, use the spray and rub - no pressure - back and forth. 3M® and Mothers® both make excellent clay bar kits. Waxes Zymol makes an excellent wax. Look for a high wax percentage content in any wax. Black Rubber Black Again® and Back to Black® are excellent products. Interiors Leather Lexol® is a good cleaner Leatherique® and Gliptone® make good leather cleaners and conditioners. Leatherique® is very good for old leather. Carpets Vacuum well, then use something like Armor All® or Tuff Stuff®. Be sure that the cleaner does not remove the dye from the carpets. Engine Don’t just degrease and spray, there are electric components which shouldn’t get wet. Tools Long cotton swabs and bamboo skewers to get into all those hard to reach areas. A lint brush is essential for car shows

Ken Saviet at April’s meeting Club News 5-24-2011 Reminder: We meet the fourth TUESDAY of each month (Except December) at 7:30 at The Chimney Rock Inn 342 Valley Road, Gillette NJ 908 580 1100 Topics included transferring the web site over to Ray Hominski. We also discussed the upcoming shows, Bonnie Brae, Touch of England and the Somerville Cruize Night

Our technical topics included the convenience of using a battery cut-off switch and also gasoline and how the newer gas con- tains ethanol which is not good for the rubber in the fuel system (among other things). Another interesting point that was brought up was using aviation gas in your classic car.

Our Guest Speaker was Matt Bakes of Triumph Rescue and British Wiring http://triumphrescue.com/ http://www.britishwiring.com/

Matt has also been a volunteer Fire Man for 22 years and the topic was Fire Safety and Fire Extinguishers .

It’s always important to carry a charged cell phone and you always want to be upwind and uphill of a fire.

He talked about the different types of Fire Extinguishers:

Dry Chem - smothers the fire, works good but makes a mess. Tap it every so often to make sure the chemical is not caked

Halon - depletes the oxygen to a fire but does not cool it. It is expensive but works very well and does not make a mess

CO2 Good but heavy. Gets cold when used.

The letters on the extinguisher correspond the types of fires they can handle: A - Paper, Wood, dry fire B - Liquid fires C Electrical Fires

Always make sure your Extinguishers are charged since you don’t want to find out during a fire that it’s not!!

It’s not a bad idea to keep a bucket of sand around in the garage to douse a fire
